Yep, that's between 50% and 65% Tatar. The climate is harsh in Canada and yet Canada is very wealthy. Of course, there are almost certainly more people of Western European descent in Canada than of Eastern European descent, though Canada does have a lot of Ukrainians.

Interesting fact: The nobility in ex-PLC Ukraine was mostly Polish even as late as 1897: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NobilityLang1897.PNG Novorossiya's nobility was mostly Russian in 1897 while Malorossiya's nobility was mostly Ukrainian in 1897.

Well, Eastern Europe isn't that IQ-deficient relative to Western Europe, on average. The Balkans are a bit more but not Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, the Baltics, et cetera. Frankly, if Ukraine wasn't going to become independent, then neither should Poland have since that way the Poles and their...

Could the decline in Russian-language publications in Ukraine after 2014 have had anything to do with pro-Ukrainian affirmative action programs/quotas in regards to publishing or whatever? At the very least, it sounds like a plausible hypothesis. And Yes, it actually did make sense for...

It's worth noting that Tsarist Russia suppressed the Ukrainian language for decades: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valuev_Circular https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ems_Ukaz This might have strengthened the relative position of Russian relative to Ukrainian in regards to book publishing, et...

Autonomy does indicate a separate identity, though. Similar to how Southern whites in the US feel nowadays. As for Russian language publications far exceeding Ukrainian ones, I'm not sure that this is exactly relevant here since one could be a Scottish or an Irish or a Welsh nationalist and yet...

FWIW, if you're curious why southern Ukraine was less inclined to vote for the Ukrainian Socialist Revolutionary Party (a Ukrainian autonomist party) in comparison to northern Ukraine in 1917, it might be because southern Ukraine was less Ukrainian than northern Ukraine was back then. Here's a...

The idea that Lenin artificially created Ukraine is a myth; even back in 1917, Ukrainians voted for the Ukrainian Socialist Revolutionary Party rather than for the Russian one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1917_Russian_Constituent_Assembly_election...

What's interesting about the Nazis is that they blamed Jews for both predatory crony capitalism AND Communism, with both of these things being viewed as tools of Jewish world domination.

FWIW, I myself would personally still prefer Western Europe's development path than Eastern Europe's development path. Western Europe still has a higher life expectancy even right now, after all: And in theory, one can isolate oneself from the more troublesome Third World immigrants who live...

On the net, do you believe that Communism was a good deal or a bad deal for Eastern Europe, excluding the former Soviet space? Obviously including the ex-Soviet space here would make Communism an extremely massive negative due to the extremely massive death, suffering, and misery that it caused...
