    A. It wouldn't. B. Fair point. C. It wouldn't. It can survive just fine without being in NATO, as you said.

lol if Brazil will buy the Canary Islands from Spain, then it would actually qualify for NATO membership, no? And Silbo Gomero would be a nice addition to Brazil, if they could actually make a Portuguese version of it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silbo_Gomero

A larger military would be a good way for Brazil to get some of its gangsters and drug lords out of its streets and into a more productive profession. Sad that it's not going to happen. :( Brazil is unfortunately extremely homicidal! :( I wonder what extent genes vs. the environment play in...

    So...NATO is expanding...

Colombia is kind of isolated from NATO due to the Caribbean Sea being in the way, though. And Turkey right now isn't exactly a democracy either. FWIW, I wish that Ukraine was eventually admitted into NATO. Though as of right now, it's much more useful keeping it outside of NATO while using it...

BTW, does anyone here know why exactly Morocco and/or Brazil never joined NATO? Is it because they're located outside of both Europe and North America?

The Syrian civil war has ironically been rather beneficial for Assad since it contributed to the Shi'ization of Syria: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00263206.2021.1995363 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shia_crescent#Demographic_transformations_and_Shiization

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/30/russia-ukraine-live-updates.html By that logic, though, why not have the Turkish Kurds move en masse to Syria? They'd sacrifice their standard of living but also significantly strengthen the Kurdish position in Syria. And Assad might be interested in a...

That makes sense. And frankly, when you think about it, the Turkish Kurds should actually be pushing for Turkey to annex the Syrian Kurdish areas in order to strengthen Kurdish political power in Turkey even further. I'm serious; I mean, why not? The main risk that I see here, of course, is...

    So...NATO is expanding...

You know, I always think that one of the biggest mistakes in the post-WWI Middle Eastern settlement was not creating an independent Kurdistan. But of course it's too late for this nowadays, unfortunately. :( Still, if I myself was Turkish, I'd give the Turks their right to national...

    So...NATO is expanding...

Maybe so ... for now! True enough. That said, though, Iraq has the potential to become wealthy since in spite of its low human capital it does have a lot of oil. But it would need better institutions and especially to aggressively deal with its corruption problem. That makes sense, to be...

    So...NATO is expanding...

What about if Sweden will allow support for pro-PKK speech just so long as the PKK activities involved are actually peaceful? Yes, I know, not ideal because I do think that one should be able to support a violent independence struggle as well: For instance, the 1950s Algerian one, which I would...

Mexico sends a lot of leftist immigrants to the US, no? And hence Turkey is not a realistic option for them. They need an alternative destination to emigrate to instead, for those of them who actually want to emigrate.

    So...NATO is expanding...

In comparison to Mexico or Brazil, Turkey isn't that much wealthier. And is Turkey actually willing to have open borders for Syrian Kurds when it doesn't like its own Kurds very much?

By GDP PPP per capita: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita Mexico: $22,000 Brazil: $17,000 Syria: $6,000 So, moving to Mexico or Brazil would very likely cause a Syrian Kurd's income to triple or quadruple. Even if some of their earnings were taxed extra as...
