A couple of Tactical Marine Squad vs Brotherhood of Steel (Fallout 4)

Ignore one of the protagonists in the franchise, the Courier? Edit: And the burned man...And probably a few other characters.

There's a difference between the silliness of most sci fi's where the writers just don't know the actual science, and Fallout, which has the same problem except it's also being told from the perspective of a classic RPG. So you end up with people canonically surviving hits to the brain because...

Going to point out how Fallout lasers are funny again. You know how in real life, militarygrade lasers don't really care about mirrors? And in some ways mirrors might actually HELP a laser melt you? Yeah well because Fallout is a funny silly post-nuclear version of DnD, Fallout lasers, of ANY...

Depends on the weapon in question, it might be in bad condition, or the person could be wearing armor. Or just be comically durable because Fallout humans are hilarious and operate off of RPG mechanic logic, AKA the more you fight the tougher you actually get. Hence the Burned Man. I can't...

I mean seeing as an exceptionally good shot cuts people in half with a laser weapon, the logical conclusion is a less lucky hit will just carve a hole in them instead. I'd have to play FO1-2 again, but admittedly I don't remember the 'chunk of torso exploding' death animation playing with...

Lasers disintegrating people in fallout is more of a 'WTF that is not supposed to happen!' thing, like Plasma weapons goopifying people. So they're not 'really' outputting gigajoules of energy, its just RPG-game magic causing it. The most common form of death from laser weapons is having holes...

Of course nothing is really indestructible, but I wouldn't think a 9mm to the head would take a spartan out.

That might depend on the bullet in question because Spartan bones are replaced with ceramic indestructible material stuff.

*Grumbling something about Bethesda ignoring established lore, including THEIR OWN LORE* T-51b and 45d use different methods to power the suit, not to mention the enclave power armor. A 'unified frame' is so silly. It's like having a mercedes benz and ford pickup truck having the same base-chassis.

The chosen one must be one STRONG god damned dude if he can shove a couple suits in his underwear.

Depends on the game, FO3/NV needs crits to do the goop effect. FO1-2 has different kill animations depending on your violence setting, the bloody mess trait, and how much damage you do...I think. So you can melt people without crits, heck you can melt people without energy skill for that matter...

A couple of Tactical Marine Squad vs Brotherhood of Steel (Fallout 4)

Ehhhhhh they 'can' do that in one shot, but that's with a funny perk. The whole 'turns people into soup' effect seems to be unintentional with plasma rifles, occurring by freak chance as the plasma hits in just the right way to break down the molecular bonds of the target, turning them into...

FO4 missiles might be HE-Frag instead of HEAT. FO1-2 had "AP" missiles though.

Okay, then power armor is shredded easily by .50's then jej. Thus bolters trivially punch through them because bolters are at least the same as heavy stubbers which are .50's with a fancy name.

Explain how plates stated to be designed with around 2500 joules in mind can withstand weapons almost an order of magnitude (or maybe even higher) greater in destructive power?

A couple of Tactical Marine Squad vs Brotherhood of Steel (Fallout 4)

Right, but how do you get from 2500 to almost ten times that number? Is there armor plates I am not aware of? Why would the armor-part of the armor only provide 1/8th the armor?

So if the composite plates can only take somewhere around 2500 joules of energy before failing, where's the extra 16000 joules of protection coming from to handle .50 BMG?

If we up the armor to handle .50BMG, where's the extra 16000 joules of protection coming from?
