The Polish State Police Criminal Division purchased 3000 Walther PPK handguns in 1939. This was an off-the-shelf purchase and not a specially produced order, but pistols from this order can be recognized by the "G2" acceptance stamp of Major Grzybowski, a senior ordnance inspector of the Polish...

It's a weird-ass semi compatible thing. The M230 rounds are 30x113mm, which is the same caliber as DEFA cannons and the Mark 4 version of the ADEN, but earlier ADENs chambered a 30x111mm round. However, despite being the same official caliber, the M230 rounds use lighter, thinner alloy cases as...

Yep. The M230 chain gun was designed as a lightweight, compact 30mm specifically for the Apache, and is actually both smaller and lighter than the 25mm Bushmaster chain gun. The Mark 44 Bushmaster II is a scaled-up evolution of the 25mm chambered for the 30x173mm caliber that was invented for...

GSG does those too, for exactly that reason.

There are also fewer legal restrictions, as many weapons laws are written to apply to centerfire firearms specifically.

Because the company that makes it, German Sport Guns GmbH, pretty much exclusively specializes in .22LR replicas.

Point of detail: it was the only replica available at the time. HMG makes one that’s available in modern intermediate calibers, being sold via Palmetto State Armory.

And speaking of Bear Arms, here's a shiny thing. Literally. The "Nebula" is a iridescent rainbow PVD finish that was introduced as a premium option on Chiappa firearms starting around 2019, and it is quite gorgeous.

This design combines all of the disadvantages of conventional and bullpup layouts and none of their advantages. On top of that fundamental failure, it is a "cool looks over function" ergonomic nightmare with a pistol grip / thumbhole stock at an angle only a contortionist could use, an...

It's worth pointing out for clarity that the 9x39mm round is not a pistol round; it's a subsonic rifle round that is the Warsaw Pact's equivalent to .300 Blackout for ARs.

A more direct comparison would be this: The .50 AE pistol round is much bigger than the 9x19mm pistol round, but the .50 BMG is on an entirely different level.

The .50 BMG pistol exists pretty much as a novelty gimmick, or if you're suspiciously minded, possibly so .50 BMG can be restricted in some states as now technically being a "handgun caliber".

Keep in mind that the Desert Eagle chambers a .50 Action Express round, which is "only" a .44 Magnum necked up to a 50-caliber bullet. This is vastly smaller and less powerful than the .50 BMG round that is pretty much always what any Westerner means when they say .50-caliber straight up.

It’s also very bulky and heavy, not particularly desirable characteristics for a handgun.

The concept of using Metal Storm tubes as armament for lightweight drones might be workable, because the one virtue they do have is that they're very light and compact compared to a "proper" firearm.

Boomstick's and shooty shooty bang bang's - The GUN Thread!

The stacked-ignition concept for Metal Storm is pretty much inherently incompatible with conventional mags. It's also not nearly as innovative as Metal Storm was hyping itself to be, as it's been used for centuries in fireworks mortars.

Boomstick's and shooty shooty bang bang's - The GUN Thread!

The MetalStorm concept got a lot of PR among fanboys because of its superficial impressiveness, but its innate flaws and shortcomings were painfully obvious to anyone who took a serious look. The company went into voluntary bankruptcy in 2012 after the hype died off, and its remains were...

There are, in theory, ways around that. But yes -- my point is simply that the AR is already so good that it's going to take a very substantial change in the underlying technology to actually be "better enough".
