Some vague idea that humanity was stagnant, which is a poor excuse if you ask me. The final books in the series add in the idea that there were surviving Thinking Machines from the Butlerian Jihad era outside the Empire planning to invade but they also add in a bunch of other weird stuff so IDK.- Word Count: 57
