I don't think Eva actually meant to piss anyone off, it is just a mess inextricably tied to the mind of its deeply unprofessional creator. Even many of the most die hard Eva fans have finally (thanks to the Rebuild films) come to the conclusion that Anno is a very poor story teller indeed...
