I want to get a gaming PC but I know nothing about them, advice thread

Zombie Panic: Source, Warcraft III (non-Reforged), and to lesser extents Homeworld: Remastered, Pharaoh (classic), RAID: Shadow Legends., 1080p YouTube/Crunchyroll. It can be a capable little card for basic stuff. ;) That's the one! :) Looks out of place in my rig, haha.

Still rocking an AMD Radeon HD 5450. :) But I think it's starting to die, given I'm getting graphic artifacts and odd colours on a rare occasion. Plus, if I want to play Homeworld 3 next year, it looks like I'll have to invest in a top of the range card. :( That's gonna set me back a grand or...

And that's mostly the fault of Adobe for not making their change more visible and known. If they did give notice, they bungled how they handled it. They fucked up.

Not finding any evidence of that -- if they did, they did it like this: They still caught everyone off-guard.

Not everyone uses intel, though until Ryzen they were the best option, and Adobe pulled this out of the blue in 2018/2019 -- using a Pentium or Celeron for any serious graphic design or rendering work? You're nuts. Xeons could do it simply because they were surprisingly versatile and could...

I want to get a gaming PC but I know nothing about them, advice thread

FYI, I was one of those "idiots" -- not everyone could afford a new processor just for one program, and not all businesses and freelancers were able to stump up a shit ton of money to replace their rigs on such short, out of the blue notice. Their rage was justified as Adobe fucked a lot of...

I want to get a gaming PC but I know nothing about them, advice thread

I understand the "why", but that didn't help all those people and businesses that were using/reusing old workhorses for their development rigs (e.g. Xeons with a ton of cheap DDR3). The sheer rage people had for Adobe was pretty vicious at the time. Wait, they set it to 65? What fucking moron...

Yeah, you can't go wrong with AMD processors (FX excluded). :) They've always been reliable and, historically when they were just starting out and cloning intel processors, outdid intel at their own game (you could buy a x386/x486 processor that was actually a step above intel's offering in the...

*fist bump* The 3600 is an amazing little trooper, ain't it? :)

Phenoms were the GOAT, especially since the FX successor line could, well, act as makeshift BBQs with how hot they ran. :) They were reliable, stable, and if you had a BE, you could overclock the fuck out of them (like I did) so they punched well above their weight class. Graphics cards have...

Same. I was rocking a Phenom II Black Edition with 12GB of RAM on an OEM Foxconn motherboard for over a decade (2010/11 until last year). It was beginning to show its age though, especially when Adobe did their absolutely retarded "this processor is no longer supported by our apps" move (since...

I want to get a gaming PC but I know nothing about them, advice thread

The FX series on the whole was a massive dumpster fire. They were so bad they almost reduced AMD to the annals of history like Cyrix. Ryzen not only redeemed AMD, it saved the company.
