I've honestly grown disinterested in this place. I'm not into fanfics at all, and for fandom discussions other places do it better. I barely visit anymore, and even that's out of a feeling of courtesy and obligation rather than genuine desire. What are the traffic statistics like at the moment?

Just send them PMs. If they notice then they notice (maybe they have email notification on), if not then tough shit.

SuperS4, I respect you personally, but your behavior on the Sietch has been trollish so far, to say the least. This same advice is also true for you. You've expressed in the past that you are not invested in this place in any way. Why should someone who IS invested, emotionally, in terms of...

    Important Going Forward

Ideally, I'd wish there was a place for the "screeching monkeys", so to speak, to shout among themselves about election and general political events, with little restriction and minimal oversight, and another place to discuss events calmly. Sometimes, I just want to vent, while other times I...

The last thing we need is that mods start enforcing pseudo-debating rules, like infracting people for "strawmanning". If someone is being strawmanned, or ad-hominem-ed, it's his/her/their/xirs responsibility to point that out. A mod shouldn't be a babysitter.

What do Star Trek tribbles have to do with a Babylon 5 character? And an extremely obscure one at that... I'm a fan of Babylon 5, watched all seasons, read the Psi Corps book trilogy, yet I never heard of this J'Hadur character and didn't even know the franchise ever explored the Dilgar war in...

I like the tribble emojis just fine, they help make this place feel more unique. I'd be happy with retiring the stupid elf character thing emoji that complete ruins the theme. Either stick with one theme, or don't.

Somehow I doubt such a stipulation is legal.

We are not SB. We don't have an already pre-existing huge userbase, and they're not the ones facing widespread negative rumors.

We need to put a hard limit on how many subforums we make. Too much and it becomes confusing, and many of them (the niche ones) will end up barren. Not gonna be a good look for the site.

A brainstorming thread (a stickied one preferably) is a good idea. Maybe creating a sub-subforum for "political essays" and having the main subforum for non-political essays would work.

How? What constitutes as "promotion"? You've fallen precisely into the trap I warned you about. Yes, we should care what people think about us. Not everyone on SB and SV are in the extreme left's clique. Someone neutral who hears all the bad shit they're saying about us might become curious...

The downside is that people on the sister boards and in general would be even more inclined to think we are fascists, since they can't see what we're talking about for themselves. They will invent stories about rampant racism or worse, child stuff being on it (remember that the SB PM was also...

I don't think an AooB rule will work with the Sietch. This board is different from SB, the SB exiles need an outlet to their frustrations. But yes, it should be kept contained.

O... kay, I guess? Do you feel like this site has some kind of obligation to prostrate itself at your feet and ask your forgiveness? If you're not feeling comfortable here, then feel free to leave, and I'll wish you good luck finding an online community to belong with in the future. This thread...

    Important Going Forward

We simply need more members. There's not getting around that. Sometimes I try to be more active in the "Media and Fandom" subforum, making threads and going on a small posting spree, but I don't get many replies.

    Not the thread for this.

    Important Going Forward

That's a good point, and I agree with it. But the problem starts when some of the users start calling for everyone to ignore other users because they're saying something they don't like. The line has to be drawn somewhere (I don't think any of us will enjoy a completely "line-less" environment)...

Maybe we need separate subforums for "productive discussions" and "everything goes". That way everybody gets what they want.

I don't think that such drastic measures should be taken on a "probably". And if there's no productive discussion you surgically eliminate the troublemakers, not nuke the entire thing.
