Battletech BattleTech discussion thread: May the light of Hanse Davion guide us

It seems they're primarily concerned about IP rights on a "don't shove it in our faces on platforms we run" basis. Besides, non-profit work, private commissions and derivative content (ie. Battletech-'compatible') are out of their hands anyway.

Pretty sure they'd have more success at protecting the future of their IP if they depoliticized their stance and invested in better writing across the board... 😏

They've been pushing woke stuff since before the Pardoe fiasco. Since I don't play the tabletop and merely enjoy the universe as is I really couldn't care less that they are voluntarily entering the purity death spiral. Nothing good ever came from this. Point in fact: the direction the universe...

So, been playing the Hyades Rim mod for HBS Btech (absolutely recommending it!), and it's rather challenging. There are tons of Flashpoint missions, and since you're stuck with a Leopard for the most part, you really have to plan those out (it's trial and error, really). Next thing I'll do is do...

Yeah, the thing with HBS BTech was that sales-wise it didn't do bad, especially since part of the development was backed by Kickstarter, and it was popular enough to get expansions, but after all the rights holders etc. were paid out the cut simply wasn't big enough to continue working on it...

Maybe Forlough allowed it to happen during the height of the campaign, but I can't see the SLDF or the First Lord to actually have sanctioned anything like it. Now, for the Massada planet in the Periphery, it's certainly possible if you set it up over a time of a couple of decades. We have to...

I'm actually surprised that this or similar theories don't at least float around more often as it'd be totally in line with TH/SLDF thinking. I'm also surprised that a power like the Taurians doesn't have their own 'Alamo' position set up some place deeper into the Periphery as that'd totally...

Guys, I'm trying to design an APC in Megamek, but I'm sorta stumped about how much the tonnage under "Transport, Troop Space" corresponds to actual numbers? Can anybody explains this to me?

I suppose the reason why there until recently was no real impact of LGBTQ+ issues in Battletech is that the setting's creators and those who kept the universe afloat and progressing for the longest time shared the implicit understanding that, in a setting defined by warfare and dynastic...

 I'll be fair and give those stories a try, but the whole brouhahaa around it has already pissed me off. Of all the things a BTech story should be about, who you bang and who you think should bang you is astronomically low on my list of priorities...

My opinion: the setting went off the rails once they kept the Clans as major powers after Tukkayid. The writers were so enamored with their furry-totem eugenic murder hobos that they literally wrote the universe around them to ignore the obvious shortfalls of the whole setup. The occupation...

Shhhh, Hanse, darling, are you alright? We thought we'd lost you for a moment. ... Yes, Victor is back home and doing fine. You'll have all the time in the world to teach him how to rule. ... Katherine? Oh, we found a new therapist for her, and NAIS has some experimental drugs in the pipeline...

I always thought the obvious elements were more cultural rather than ethnic markers.

I've.... never thought BTech was anything but egalitarian with regards to race and gender. Was that ever really an issue? I always thought the Clans with their weird mix of tribal Mongol khanate bullshit and iron womb planned warrior line genetics were the odd man out of the bunch?! And now they...

While it does make some sense in the confines of the universe, it still sounds... childish, maybe? Same with the Scorpion Empire. Leaving aside the idea of a single clan that hurriedly had to pack up and flee can willy-nilly waltz over some of the larger deep periphery powers even though they've...

It's because Catalyst's storywriting and worldbuilding has been on a continous quality slide downwards for quite some time now, from idiots balls like this one up to entry-level fanfiction naming like "Scorpion Empire" (which absorbs a handful of the remaining interesting deep periphery powers)...

I posted this in the Blaine Pardoe thread, but I feel it also fits here. Honestly, the act of cancelling bothers me far more than who is getting cancelled. So while this is despicable on CGL's part, and spits into the face of someone who's diligently added to their IP for close to forty years...

I suppose we can agree that much is left to interpretation, though personally this passage here makes it sound to me as if this was a one time occurence: ...was chosen by the Privy Council in consultation with planetary authorities—an unusual circumstance, forced by crisis... This, apparently a...
