Its been over 20 years since that happened, the European union has stated that their a great power and a hedgemon. The Balkans are literally next door to them, a few countries in the Balkans are EU members this is their responsibility.

I just want to remind the people of Europe that the Balkans are not America's responsibility. Its not a part of our near abroad, its doesn't provide us any truly important trade or resources, going in doesn't serve any of our intrests at all.
