WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

It's a long way to Washington - there might be no WNT in this TL. The war may end in 1917, USA might not join the war, Wilson might not win in 1916, Congress may tell the USN to go pound sand instead of wanking over dreams of having ten battleships with 16" guns AND six battlecruisers, the UK...

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

Was it the ratio itself, or the 315k tons limit?

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

@ShadowArxxy All true, but we are in 1916, not 18-20. Thinking of it, the Japanese will lie about the calibre of their guns, saying "41cm, nothing special, move along, move along ... ". Avoiding size comparisons (hurrhurr) is one of the reasons I was thinking about when I envisioned the...

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

Having only three turrets may had been interpreted as 25-30k battlecruiser?

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

I doubt the Room 40 reading coded messages on the fly. But those in clear? As to the Japanese - what are the chances of having dudes fluent in German on it? But as this is a fantasy story - I will roll with the casting of [Complehend Ranguage] on the radio operators :p

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

I doubt the viability of 127mm fire at 20k metres ... Torpedos - only after a battleline is formed. Otherwise a total waste.

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

Funny factoid - as its bridge superstructure was seven stories high, the Yamato had an ELEVATOR inside it. That alone pushes technology forward, even if in a small way and in an niche application. ADDED LATER: The seaplanes were stored below deck, because of the MEGA blast of the rear turret...

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

My sentiment exactly, hence my suspicion that they did not. But I wanted to check :) I later remembered that there is no shortage of small - i.e. vehicle or airplane size - engines aboard the Japanese vessel and which could be copied for various applications - think of all the ship's boats.

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

Did the Yamato or Yahugi carry airplanes during their final sortie?

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

Does not matter. Ships are to be used 15 - max 20 - years and then scrapped. The 1930s rebuilds were an aberration. Also - lack of room for growth of the SoDak class is not Japan's problem :) The Nagato class needs (relatively) minor tweaks to be greatly improved and not require the 1930s...

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

@stevep - lovely post. Nagato and Mutsu have been ordered a few days previously - IMO will be cancelled and redesigned, e.g. with AoN. I repeat my view that Ise and Hyuga are junk and should be cancelled too. IMO Japan cannot build straight Yamato copies, as the Navy Officers do not know how...

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

This one of the reasons I was thinking about the IJN Squadron avoiding British ports. Or being stand offish. Hmmm - they can claim to have outbreaks of Spanish Flu, Divine Wind or Galloping Crotchrot, or all three, and declare a quarantine :) BTW - I'm not sure if the complicated design of the...

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

The "Tillman Monsters" were "half serious" designs, i.e. the Navy showing Tillamn fancifull yet still somewhat plausible concept sketches as to get him him off their back. Inside a year or two everybody who can will be building 4x3x406 or 4x2x450mm ships with 50-60 k tons displacement. 508mm...

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

No offence taken. I did make it sound that Yamato and Friends can wipe out the HSF which is, as you noted, a bit OTT :)

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

I may be a bit :) hyperbolic but ... the Yamato is as fast if not faster than the BCs of both sides present. All battleships are slower. It cannot be swamped, it can run away turn around and charge. :) Considering the technology gap, it could well be one long lance = one battleship. And the...

WI the Imperial Japanese Warships of Operation Ten-Go was ISOT to the Battle of Jutland

The HSF is massacred. The British get "excited" once they see the size of the Japanese flagship and order between four and eight 4x2x18" battleships - they already have such rifles in production, they only need to design a twin turret for them :) Oh, and they try to steal and copy anything not...
