Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

While I was researching for a different project, I found out that "Nordics" is actually an alien species in the current UFOlogy mythos, alongside races like the Grays and Reptilians. I had wondered why there was a "Nordic" race in the game in the first place but I'm guessing it's a reference to...

TSR has stated the pages are photoshopped. =AZVVAsMfhu2N1EUptwy6bl8rc4CdSRDhkcLPbbSpK7TEMmagxr6j7aYc0mPUXpAtAgc-U8b5atlY_IXikczJAh9XjMbr1aG1tn3_RIv9W0kTtEWD7m4_wIx5vrc4TTGLTosXlMSkSTUQKtcuaj4gY9Eu18vWYCrTmttCxk4Yep2wqQ&__tn__=-UC%2CP-y-R']Ryan Palmer...

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

I agree, that looks pretty terrible. I'm slightly suspicious because all of the problematic bits are from purported leaks of private documents with no way to tell if it's the real deal or not. Further, none of those races listed are from Star Frontiers and in fact kinda counter its themes...

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

A company on the rise releases new products. A company on the decline sues to keep their competition from releasing new products. More seriously though, from a strategic POV what they're doing makes sense. It's not about appeal, it's about control. In the roleplaying world, it's all about...

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

It looks like Hasbro is very much making racism the object matter of the suit, they've filed a 100-page long injunction that's basically claiming their image will be hurt by any association with nuTSR. They've even entered pages of their own games into evidence to show that they are working...

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

Man, the RPG world's Powers That Be really don't want the Gygax name coming back and threatening their stranglehold on the industry.

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

You're right. I don't actually agree with TSR's reasoning, I can merely see where it's coming from. They really don't have anything to lose from capitulating either, as they were basically already beaten the moment they got cancelled from the cons and rendered unable to advertise or have a...

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

Well, I can see their reasoning. With them being pre-emptively banned from all the cons they basically lost just about any chance of moving forward. They could stand up to the Twitter mob but being pre-emptively blocked from public events would just plain sink the company, no questions asked...

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

I did a little bit of digging and visited RPG.NET and ENWorld to see if I could find the issues. It wasn't pretty and honestly, it's indeed hard to find the problem but what I've uncovered is this: E Gary Gygax Junior did an interview on forming TSR. You can find it here: I honestly haven't...

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

Huh, so apparently they're making a GiantLands theme park along with the tabletop game? That could have some problems...

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

It's always possible there's a company behind the company so I can't be certain but it looks like they're indie. The TSR copyright expired and they filed on it before Hasbro did which wouldn't be needed if Hasbro was just revamping a copyright they already owned.

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

So having done a bit of looking, it seems their first product, GiantLands, is in preorder now. Details are a bit sparse but I've heard it's a classless percentile system. The cover certainly harkens back to DnD days with a scantily clad wench in a loincloth, a muscley dude who looks like...

Tabletop TSR is returning: The Birthplace of the RPG

Well having the Wizard Tenser himself on board is heartening but I'll wait to really celebrate until I've seen an actual game come out of it.
