So what are you watching?

The final battle was the entire point of the movie. In order to get to the final scene Captain Algren had to be surrounded by stupid ... and he's not too bright either.

No the final Battle was the entire point you got out of the movie. Which is fine.

When I watch an Edward Zwick movie like Glory I wasn't like... "Oh actually the battle of James Island was more of a skirmish and didn't play out in film with a prolonged melee," Or that the entire point of the film was the suicide charge up the slopes of Fort Wagner in the end.

Or like with Courage Under Fire. "Watched Courage Under Fire Today. The Tank Battle was unrealistic. Basically a star vehicle for Denzel Washington. Entire point of the film was Meg Ryan getting napalmed. 2/10."

I guess I got far more out of the film then you did. 🤷‍♀️

And I know there's irony in that Tom Cruise is portraying a White dude gone native. But it went the Dances With Wolves route of actually showing it... Not Black facing in characters.

/Rant Over
That's the most enjoyable thing about both of those films. Costner did it way better and I very much like Dances With Wolves and Robin Hood.

EDIT: You'd be hard pressed to find a Kevin Costner film I don't like. With Tom Cruise it's "eh, whatever" with a side of "take it or leave it". "Leave it" is my usual opinion.

What's wrong with the anime for it?

FWIW, I myself have recently watched this series on Netflix:

Not sure about you, but even when anime is a nearly perfect adaptation of the manga (as MHA is), manga to me simply seems to convey emotion better. See:

Princess and I watched Wargames (1983) last night.

Princess thinks it's a comedic farce because computers and networks back then weren't capable of pretty much everything the film has one do. She was laughing the entire time.

The best computer you could buy back then was a Cray-1 and we've got the hardware manual for one of those 5.5ton 115kW liquid cooled monsters sitting on a bookshelf.

You'd have also blown practically the entire film's budget just to get one and turn it on. A Cray-1 also needs about 60 miles of precisely measured and cut coaxial cable (i.e.: what cable TV uses) wiring just to work. Mess up just one cable and a Cray-1 won't work.
Try https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossus:_The_Forbin_Project IMHO it is the better alternative to War Games.
Fred Saberhagen also wrotr one pretty decent book reminiscent of that movie, about a supercomputer getting plugged into a play by post space RPG.

That might be interesting to watch.

When the book it was based on was was written sending two people into space at the same time so one could do a space walk was "we're just guessing".

Just a few years later and around when the film you mentioned was released Apollo 13 happened.

That was "How can we get a crippled spacecraft meant for a Moon landing safely back to Earth?" and NASA pulled it off.

Two emergency computer shutdowns to save battery power were needed.

So watched Beast.

The main plot is that a Father takes his kids to visit South Africa wildlife refuge. The Father is played by Idris Elba who does a decent job. The kids do a good job of acting like kids in a stressful situation.

Overall it is fairly suspenseful and a few of the jump shots acutally work. The movie is somewhat realistic in how they fight back and the paniced reactions.

The problems I have with the flim is long shots. While they can work it does cause some long drawn out scenes.

But overall it is a decent monster movie. Nothing great but an enjoyable time waster.

New stuff I am watching

The Middle.

I watched when it came out and liked it. It fallows a lower middle class family in the Midwest. It actually is a fairly decent portrayal and not something you see very often in Hollywood.

I would highly recommend it for anyone that liked Last Man Standing.

Moblie Suit Gundam Witch from Mercury

I have only watched the frist episode but it is off to a decent start. But it is suppose to be a full lengh Gundam show so time will tell.

The Amazing Race

It is one of my favorite shows and something my whole family has watched snice season one 20 years ago. It is more game show then reality show like Big Brother. But I always liked watching the competitions and seeing the different countries.

Top Gun Maverick - 6/10 (Fine)

The raid sequence in the last half hour of the movie is really good. Sadly the rest of the movie isn't. The Penny subplot is awful. The helicopter CGI at the end was pretty bad.

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms 6/10 (fine)

The Final Fantasy Tactics storyline was pretty interesting. A declining dynasty's last ditch attempt to retain power. Dragons, armies, villages being wiped out, assassination attempts, all that good stuff. Unfortunately, the other half of the movie is about the idolization of single mothers. Meh. There are a thousand movies about that already. Brings down the overall movie. Unusually decent production values for a modern anime movie, with only a couple shots of conspicuously shoddy 3D CGI. English dub is okay.

Uzaki-chan Wants To Hang Out.

Holy shit, it's fucking hilarious.

This legendary line is from episode 2, season 1:

Jesus Christ, I encourage anyone who hasn't watched this to watch it. I'm dying of laughter.

I think I'll give "Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro" a watch next. I've heard good things about it and its dub.

Maverick killed at the box office -- I'm not kidding; all of its rivals practically sunk. :ROFLMAO:

I didn't see Top Gun Maverick until a few weeks after the fact due to word of mouth. Never even seen Top Gun (and still haven't) and figured when I saw the sequel announced I assumed it would be pretty meh since I don't recall anyone I know being interested in seeing it.

But it exploded and I saw it and I agreed it was pretty solid.

I saw the 2018 movie Accident Man starring Scott Adkins. It's a martial arts action movie where Scott Adkins portrays a colorfully distinct assassin who works for a group of assassins that works out of a pub somewhere in Britain. He's called the Accident Man because of how he can make hits look like accidents.

It started off and I was worried it was going to be too cringe or B-movie but rapidly won me over as soon as the first fifteen or twenty minutes had passed. It was a fun movie to watch and had a lot of serious moments that anchored what I thought was going to be an overly comedic film. But the lighthearted tone of the film actually really worked for me and I liked it a lot.

And of course I absolutely loved the fight choreography. I loved seeing Michael Jai White, Ray Park and Scott Adkins fighting each other in multiple scenes! Plus professional stuntwoman/martial arts badass Amy Johnston was in there as a deadly honeypot ronin assassin type which... was a lot cooler schtick then I thought it'd be.

Would recommend.

Sequel came out recently as well, which is why I wanted to see the first movie since both came to me via word of mouth as to being pretty quality.

So I have not started it yet but tonight is the Yellowstone premiere.

Here is the tralier

So tonight is the a two hour epsodie to kick off the new season that I plan on watching.

Two hours? Really? I hope they wrap things up this season. The show is really starting to drag.

I don't think they have run out of plotlines yet. They still have the fight with the New York investment frim which seems like the focus of this season along with the fight with the Indian reservation which seem like it will take on greater role soon.

The big thing is that the show has had movement and character development. So when combined with time skips and some decent plot lines I think it still has life to it myself.

Fam and I are finally watching Season 4 of Stranger Things. Up to Ep. 6 I think.

-Feels a bit like they're forcing the plot a bit as "Vecna" had nothing tangible pointing to it. Maybe that's the point.
