Chuuni Academy [OOC/Application]

Infodump
Welcome to Chuuni Academy.

Congratulations, through some inane twist of fate, you woke up one morning with a supernatural ability, and you happened to know exactly what it does automatically. Yay you. Not that it'll help you that much.

Why, you ask? Because your goal isn't to vanquish some ancient evil or win some magical battle royale.

Your goal is to become Student Council president in the election held at the end of the year.

You've already been registered as a candidate, and for the next month, it's campaigning time.

This is necessarily open-ended and player-driven. You can act how you want. If your actions will get you favor with the student body, get you in detention, or get you jailed depends on what they are. You can ask me for permission before doing something, but I won't say if it's possible. You can be like "yo can I hack the school's servers" and I'll just say "i don't think that's how hacking works but sure you can try"- don't come crying to me if you get caught and suspended. You can challenge the guy with a 5 in Athletics to a fight, but don't complain when you get beaten the shit up.

Rules are normal rules. You should know what an RP's rules are like.

Also, if you don't have your character up until after the RP has started, whether because you joined late or because you were taking several weeks to make a character so we started without you, you can still join mid-RP but you'll be at a penalty compared to the other characters, because you didn't turn in your candidacy application to the faculty until after the deadline, and will need to carve out a voter base for yourself from scratch.

Name: If you don't have a surname I will punch you.

Age: You're all "second years" (because we're probably doing this in not!Japan because people will probably app weeb names anyway). Keep that in mind.

Gender: Let's not start any arguments.

Appearance: Yes, you can use a picture, I don't care. Yes, you can put it all nice and pretty and centered at the top with a little italicized quote under, you do you.

Personality: You can do this, I believe in you.

Backstory: You are a high school student. If you make this stupid, I will evict you.

OST: Optional based on how much of a <method actor> you are. Theme song and stuff.

Params, ability scores, stats, whatever you want to call them. You know what they are. They'll impact dice rolls on my end, character building on your end, and a litany of other things. They're ranked on a scale from 1 to 5. You must average out at a 3 at maximum.

Only one character at any given time may have a 5 in a given parameter, so there can only be one 5-ranked Academic, one 5-ranked Chuuni, etc. You can reserve the 5-ranker for a given parameter by PMing me in advance, or being the first to app said 5-ranker, whichever comes first.

Here's what each does:

Academics: Your nerd modifier. 1 means you were that kid who ate glue in kindergarten, and probably still do now. 5 means you are always going "keikaku doorhinge" and nobody understands your bullshit.

Athletics: Your hitting things modifier. 1 means that you are unable to beat a five year old in single combat through skillful employment of "punching". 5 means you're the state powerlifting champion, except this is probably Japan, does Japan have those?

Appearance: Your KAKKOI modifier. 1 means you wear a paper bag on your head and your mom disowned you. 5 means there is a black market in the school for pictures of your sleeping face.

Chuunibyou: Your Almighty modifier. 1 means you are a normal member of society and unabashedly boring. 5 means you are Hououin Kyouma's 12th reincarnation.

Asspulls: Your protag modifier. 1 means you have never once won a coin toss. 5 means you'd basically be the protagonist if it wasn't for the fact that you're such a little shit.

Name/Title: The higher your Chuuni rank, the more intricate of a name/title you're obligated to have. Level 1 Chuuni should have one word for the name and title each. Level 5, you should write a full paragraph.

Description: If you make a power that is obviously built for winning elections, I will have a big ol' frowny-face. Make this a fantasy-style power that you'd use in a battle royale. The blander the better. No fate altering or conceptual stuff or anything like that. Throwing fireballs or summoning swords are fine though. If you want to be clever about it, like making your power controlling wind and using it to blow up the skirt of your opponent so everyone gets a shot of her panties because hahAa aNImE, feel free. Except don't use that example cause I just gave it to you.

Description:

What does the "parameters have to average out to 3" thing mean?

You can do math, I believe in you. If I add up all of your parameters and divide that sum by 5, the resulting number should be 3 or less. In other words, your base stat total should be 15 or less. If you have a character with 3 in every stat, that's fine. Or 4 in two stats, 2 in two stats, and 3 in one stat. Just so long as the average comes out to 3.

How do we post? Paragraph-style or more D&Dish?

Paragraph-style is generally preferred. If you really want to, a more D&Dish, reactionary approach is fine, but then you can't include as much detail, characterization, or general fun as you could otherwise. The RP's not all about the campaign, you should have fun with your character too.

Is the school actually called Chuuni Academy?

No.

Name: Kin Niku [金肉]

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Appearance:
385348.jpg
c3016248d830d620d7f63b548d3a31868bfae1fe.jpg

Personality:”MUSCLES!”

An unsurprisingly one-track mind with little in his very tiny meat-brain besides physical improvement. This single-minded focus has led him to be unable to pick up on the mood of the room, and has warped all of his standards of common sense.

He believes that everyone should have the right to exercise- at least enough to be healthy, and to pursue their own ideal body shape. He understands that bodybuilding is not the only form of dedicated muscle crafting one can partake in, and he welcomes a great variety of sports. He dabbles in quite a few, but his dedicated bodybuilding has led him to decide not to take any of them up full-time. Cheat methods for bulking up and changing one’s body are frowned upon, and discarding physical training entirely is anathema to Kin Niku.

He is a willing student and teacher to any and all on the path of Muscles. It is, perhaps, the only place he can thrive in. Anywhere else and his failings in academics make themself very evident.

Backstory:In their backyard, there was a big rock that Kin Niku always looked up at. His parents always told him it fell from the sky, and he agreed with them. After all, his parents always told the truth.

The big rock was a constant source of curiosity for Kin. One day, in an attempt to lift it up, he put his small arms as far as he could around the large boulder and tried to lift, but was unable to make it shift even slightly. Having acknowledged the rock as a worthy foe from the stars, Kin Niku began his weightlifting program guided by his father in order to lift the big rock.

Bench press. Incline bench. Reverse Flies. Skull Crushers. Kin Niku sought to master them all, and to put his training to the test.

As his training intensified, and his dosages of PROTEIN began to increase, Kin found himself swelling in size beyond what he had imagined possible. Before, he could comfortably fit into XL shirts, but now he needed custom-made XXXXXL uniforms and even those were a tight fit. He found himself too big to fit into a train, so found himself running next to the train lines instead. Classes found it hard to accommodate him so he usually sat outside, not that he minded much. He didn’t think much of classes, and was perfectly content to do pushups in the hallway instead.

Finally, one day he decided his training had reached a good point. He approached the space rock, gripped the giant boulder with his hands, braced, and lifted upwards. The rock was sent flying, in a direction Kin couldn’t even see eventually. He smiled as one of his life’s goal-markers had finally been achieved. That night, he went to sleep with dreams about the rock and contentment about his success.

And he woke up a small child. His panic at the sudden loss of his muscles led to much confusion until they finally appeared once more once he willed his mind and body to apply tension to them. Like that, Kin Niku got superpowers. It affected him remarkably little.

Name/Title: Size Modulation/I Fit Now

Description:The ability to manipulate one’s own size freely. The laws of mass still apply, however the body’s size and to a smaller extent shape can transform. This can mean anything within the boundaries of becoming A*t-man’s tiny form or sizing up like Ultraman to fight big things. Except there aren’t a lot of things that big to fight.

Ordinarily, the only usage of this ability for Kin Niku is how he can now fit into medium sized clothes instead of XXXXXL customware, and how he can finally fit into trains and actually slip through doorways. He considers this a wonderful blessing, but doesn’t care much for the applications such as muscle shaping or size enhancing. After all, you cannot gain true Muscles through shortcuts. They may only be made through hard work and PROTEIN!

Or wait, someone who has been so effect by the Chuuni that they are convinced they are all trapped in an existentialist hell and that they are each other's punishment.

I don't have any issue with a straight-man character or something in that vein on face, but it's also probably worth cautioning how much you think you'll be able to do with them, since I can see how that sort of discourse could be fun for a couple of posts but taper off. Ultimately up to you, though!

Name: Gotoko Tama

Age: Whatever age second year is.

Gender: Male

Appearance:
1482965945-3d9561fa5a014da11e0dd3b2f148b1b0.jpeg

Personality: Tama-kun is extremely melancholy, shy, and exceptionally immature, with very basic understanding of social interactions with other boys and terror at the thought of interacting with a girl.

Backstory: Tama has been a child of unfortune his entire life. He was born with cerebral palsy, and needs at the very least crutches to get himself around. On top of this, he was born with an exceptionally ugly face that made him look several times his own age, but his height would never allow him to pass as an adult as he is close to being a legal midget. And while one might expect a god who crafted a boy without looks or strength, he may be blessed with intelligence. Unfortunately, while Tama isnt braindead or even all that dumb, he is terrible with schooling due to dyslexia and a lack of motivation, instead wanting to immerse himself in toys and cartoons. All of this may be alieved had Tama perhaps had loving parents, but Tama was found in a dumpster near a firehouse at birth and subsequently raised in a maximum security orphanage.

Tama believed himself a destined hikikomori, forced to interact with society only through school and once that ended shuttering away in an apartment never to be seen again. However, in the summer before his second year, Tama gained complete clarity as to his true nature. Tama was not god's failed abortion, but rather he was a pinnacle of engineering, an ultimate form of life. Tama was not a human being, but rather, a psychic vampire of the Kanashi clan. A psychic vampire doesn't feed on blood or need to avoid the sun, but instead looks identical to a normal human being, and feeds from a variety of social interaction. The Kanashi feed from causing feelings of sympathy or sadness directed towards or caused by themselves. Tama is their pinnacle, a being who with utter ease can cause people to feel deeply sad and sorry for him through his sheer unfortune in life.

Description: By causing people feelings of sadness and sympathy, Tama drains them of their energy, leaving them with symptoms of depression and lethargy that increase depending on how sad or sympathetic one feels due to Tama. This energy is then taken by Tama, and can be stored for use in temporarily boosting his own stats.

Three-character minimum.
I suppose I should ask what, mechanically, the Chuuni stat actually does beyond being a characterization license.

@FriedCFour Good to go!

I suppose I should ask what, mechanically, the Chuuni stat actually does beyond being a characterization license.

It also determines your power name/title length! It also has a minor role on the power side of things when clashes come up, and will have a role in determining reputation and relations with some NPCs.

I'm not quite sure whats fair to you for the mechanics of the stat boosting aspect of the power. Is that going to be left more vague or should we be more exact with it?

I'm happy to leave it vague and trust you to use your good judgment, since despite this being a 'PvP' thing in name, it really shouldn't be taken wholly seriously in that regard. If you're concerned about crossing a line and want to demarcate these sorts of things in advance, we can go ahead and codify stuff.

Just one question: does InsaneTrollLogic fall under Asspulls or Intelligence? For example, would a character using insane troll logic to convince someone of something be using the intelligence stat or the asspull stat?

Probably a bit closer to Asspull, but that's sort of an iffy area. Academics is more for pulling off inane 'keikaku doorhinge' nonsense that you'd see from the protagonist of an [INTELLECTUAL] show.

Mind if I join?

Name: Ryoken Kazekiri

Age: Whatever an average not!japanese second year is supposed to have.

Gender: Boy.

Appearance:
5ac625a35c5bcc2702d70a26d19de66a.png
5688-52959948.jpg
Personality: Ryoken is very withdrawn and has difficulty making friends mostly because of his own poor ability at making choices. He is somewhat prideful at the stupidest of things and never pulls back on his choices even if he regrets it seconds after taking the decision.

He hides his true self with a cool character mask, and only is himself in his mind, when no one he knows is close and in his house. Unless a matter is of his interest he won't pay mind, his brain zoning out and thinking other less serious stuff, when the conversation is over he tends to regret not having heard.

He is dense and a bit clueless in general. He doesn't notice the minor details around, nor see the bigger picture, and also has no artistic sense at all. He isn't one to subterfuge and likes things to be straightforward, because is less of a hurdle. His memory for names is also a bad one.

When he see someone who needs help he doesn't help them unless they ask him help. Is his belief that if someone needs help they should ask first. Except for the elderly, whom he lends a hand if he can. He'll never ask help because of his stupid pride.

Backstory: Ryoken never felt something was wrong with him. To him it was normal to lack any motivation whatsoever, think constantly about how shitty the world truly is and hate most people living on it for no reason. It wasn't like he could ask anyone, he hated most people and never made friends with anyone.

His life is centered in his house, beyond going to school and back to home he doesn't leave his house for anything else, never. Of his own volition of course.

His father was distant and the few interactions he had with him always filled Ryoken with disappointment so he gave up on him. He never met his mother, she died when he was one. The one who truly raised him was his grandmother and she may have spoiled him too much. She is the only person he truly cares for.

Ryoken has no big expectatives and no grand plan for his life. He doesn't want to live long and has no wish to sire kids. He put little effort in anything he does if he doesn't care for it. He doesn't care for most things.

His first year he spent it being his usual self, just another face in the crowd, easily forgettable and no one to talk with.

Now in second year, his name was somehow in the list of candidates to Stuco. He has a suspect in mind. He didn't wanted to get roped into it, but withdraw now would make him look bad so he won't. He won't put so much effort into it, but he would at least try and feign he was interested in win. Hint: he isn't.

The most remarkable moment in his life was awaken the ability of summon an stand.

@ConvexAtaraxia Got another idea that I can partially combine with the first, a serial ISOT, Isekai, Yankee in King Arthur's Court, etc victim? Keeps on getting taken, or dragged along into such scenarios? Even making references to various series, such as making references to stuff like the Draka in passing.
