Technology Tencent Securing Patents for a 'Windows' Based Handheld Game Console

Several Chinese companies have already come out with a handheld Windows-based gaming console that imitates the form factor of the Switch. Both the AYA Neo and the GPD Win 3 (which sacrificed almost all of its predecessor's functionality as a PC, in order to look more like a Switch) went live on Indigogo recently to massive success; so it's not surprising a larger corporation like Tencent is looking to get in on the action.

Personally though, I'm happy sticking with my Win 2; I don't really like the Switch's form factor, and prefer something with a clam shell design and an actually functioning keyboard.

Honestly, this isn't something that should be pattentable, there is no innovation to it.

"A game console that is a tablet/screen with two controllers that can split off the side of the tablets to be used as a wireless remote control in each hand" is pretty unique, inventive, I think.

Except none of the devices that try to look like a Switch can actually do that, so they're more like the Switch Lite; a tablet with controllers fused to the sides.

Your literally describing the Nintendo Switch, not even this thing.

Anyway, this is a toy, and it and nothing like it will have any relevant amount of market share now or in the near future. The vast majority of PC games are absolutely miserable on devices like these.

I'd much rather play Switch games intended for a device like the Switch than try to play PC games in that format.

Also, the source being used here is trash; the article itself has terrible english.

I own a GPD Win 2, and it's not unpleasant to use at all; after you get used to holding it at least. Its most obvious use case is to play emulated games on the go, but I've also enjoyed playing PC strategy games on it, like Heroes of Might and Magic 2. Although admittedly, that has a lot to do with it having a decent thumb keyboard, which none of the newer devices aping the Switch seem to have.
