In Honor of Black History Month...

During a semi generic Zombie takeover of some random anonymous city, four individuals are trapped near the center of the city and have to make their escape! The city has your usual heavily urbanized downtown with skyscrapers and the like... but there is also a great deal of suburban sprawl as well... and it's all filled with glorious zombies and other biological nasties!!! Joy! Needless to say... you can't just drive on out of the city due to abandoned roadblocks, collapsed bridges/tunnels, huge car blockages and other things. Airports are devastated. Sewers are blocked, noxious and filled with giant mutant crocodiles.

And each of these protags can't just save themselves... but also a healthy, "relatively intelligen, "athletic individual... which is your avatar. That's right, this is an escort quest for the character in question... and you have to choose whom you are going to have escorting your butt out of the city.

Most of the adversaries in the city are your standard Zombies and tend to shamble around, but a large portion are also fast zombies who can run, sprint, climb and jump as well. Bites carry an infection but are survivable if treated in the first 24 hours or whatever (so escape by then) and zombies can be killed through the standard destruction of the brain or central nervous system.

There are other monsters too however including (but not limited to):

Lickers (Resident Evil) who can leap, climb, have deadly claws and lancelike tongues and sense targets via noise and are extremely fast and somewhat durable (requiring many pistol shots or a few shotgun blasts to fell).

The Tank (Left 4 Dead) who are just giant, musclebound and sprinty huge zombies who can soak up a lot of damage and possess incredibly superhuman strength.

Volatile (Dying Light) who are extremely fast and nimble and strong and can spit acidic phlegm but typically only come out at night.

Demon (Metro Last Light) Horse sized, bat winged gargoyle like aerial predators who can claw, scream and overturn mid sized vehicles with their mighty strength.

Also... just in case... there are also delightful giant zombie alligators in the sewers and waterways, zombie dogs romping about and other assorted undead infected monstrosities and mutations as the OP desires!

Which dusky maiden would you choose to help rescue your sorry posterior? They'll all start with basic equipment and more can be salvaged as be needed. For some reason they'll feel obligated in protecting you, like they have some sort of feelings for you. But if your too much of an ass they'll ditch you. Conversely, they are also unattached and thusly single and looking to mingle and you know how these high stress situations can foster romance or something.

Jacqui Briggs (Mortal Kombat)

Alyx Vance (Half Life)

Sheva Alomar (Resident Evil)

Nadine Ross (Uncharted)

Casca (Berserk)

Jade (Mortal Kombat

Whom do you choose as your survival horror companion?

Alyx Vance, because she is the only one I know anything about.

I'm just happy I got a second response to these threads.

It was beginning to feel spammy... which it is. Because I have days and days worth of Versus ideas lined up for this month. :sneaky:

PsihoKekec

Swashbuckling Accountant
Does it has to be a woman? Because I don't intend to fuck my saviour, so I'd prefer to tag along with someone cool, like Blade.

Fucking your savior isn't mandatory in this scenario.

Blade is coming up later in the month.

I was also kinda surprised. I figured you were more worldly then me. Anyways for a brief breakdown of the characters off the top of my head, excluding Alyx Vance since you already dated her.

Jacqui Briggs is from Mortal Kombat, or more specifically the rebooted continuity that started with Mortal Kombat 9. Mortal Kombat X/10 came out and took place "twenty years" after the main games so a lot of the main characters had adorable young adult children. Jacqui Briggs is a Special Forces member whose father is Jackson Briggs or Jax, whom you might recognize from the game as the Black guy with metal arms. They both are really good at punching people. Jacqui Briggs is a highly skilled boxer and kickboxer and has had all sorts of Special Forces training as well and can use guns and does special operations all the time. In later games her metal gauntlets are enhanced by nebulous energy fields and pulses which make her even more formidable a kombatant. Attitude wise, she seems fairly cheerful and lighthearted, family and friend oriented and cares about her loved ones deeply. She's also straight, which might be rare with how modern media is trying to homosexualize all Black people.

Sheva Alomar is a special forces soldier from "Africa." She appeared most prominently in Resident Evil 5 where she was the companion to that settings Captain America, Chris Redfield because RE5 can be played as a coop game. She's a highly trained super cop who due to her upbringing hates corruption and evil Big Pharma (tm). She's well educated, having learned English in university and has elite skills with firearms and hand to hand combat. In RE5 it was Chris and her that beat up a West African country full of infected, various assorted monsters and then blew up the settings big bad, Albert Wesker at the top of an active volcano. She didn't have any romances but seemed fairly personable. She also has a very respectful outfit based off of native African dress. Probably has the most experience in fighting zombies and monsters as well of the four.

Would.

And last up, Nadine Ross is from the Uncharted series of games. She's a secondary antagonist in a game where she earned the infamy for beating up the main character, Nathan Drake, in hand to hand combat in an event you cannot win. This caused much ree'ing of the fanbase. Later, she beats up other lesser males as well. While I agree her inclusion was a DEI thing, I think in spite of it, she's actually a decent character. Her lore background is that she's a South African military veteran. She founded her own private military company that's done the standard investing in various African civil wars before she took a detour into treasure hunting. She's typically pretty cool headed and sensible, and amiable to her friends, loyal to her employees and allies etc but does enjoy fighting it seems. Probably the most icy in personality of the bunch. Also a skilled sniper.

EDIT:

I forgot Casca.

She's a skilled swordswoman, knight and mercenary leader. She rose from humble origins as a peasant in a mountain village to become a notable leader of a famous mercenary company temporarily when its leadership was eliminated. She's stern and austere and a warrior first and foremost but is loyal and dedicated to her comrades in arms and uses her martial strength to overcome whatever people might perceive as her 'womanly shortcomings.' But overall she's a highly skilled and honed warrior and swordswoman, who can use her natural agility to aid in defeating larger opponents. She might be more cold then Nadine... but she's also shown more warmth and depth in her many more appearances as well. She's probably the best fighter when it comes to armed melee combat and t hen some but as she comes from a medieval setting, her other skills would be limited. For the purposes of this Versus, I'd probably handwave any intimidation she might have with the modern setting, but still largely inexperienced in most of the modern day stuff.

Barbarian ! racist ! everybody who watched Rings of Pawagh knew, that elves are black,so elf princes must be black as night ! ;)

I actually need some ideas for a Blackface character versus so feel free to forward them to my office.

I don't know anything about any of the guys save Jaquie and...ehhh? is there any chance I can pick Jill Valintine or Tifa Lockheart? Maybe Jade from MK or tyna?

Well as its a Black History Month versus, the idea is Black or African descendents being featured and amplified. So Jade or Yanya from Mortal Kombat I can add in. Probably the former is more appropriate.

EDIT:

Also added details on Casca. Forgot to add her in the commentary.

Honestly it makes me sad that there are not many iconic black female characters in video games. :(

I was actually surpised by that as well. And the important thing is iconic. Now Casca is from the Berserk manga so she's not a proper video game character but the other four are video game characters and honestly probably about as iconic as it gets. Most of the Black female representation in video games come from fighting games. Tekken (Master Raven and maybe Christie Monteiro), Mortal Kombat (Jacqui Briggs, Jade, Tanya etc) and Street Fighter (Libra, Elena, Kimberly Jackson etc) all have multiple fighters of African ancestry and while I'm not familiar with it, I'm sure King of Fighters does as well.

It's ironic a fair number are from Japanese companies as well. And adding onto the iconic theme, the Wolfenstein reboot also had a Black female character prominently featured and she was just absolutely terrible IMHO. The whole series just jumped off the cliff after the first game of course. Conversely, I think of Bioshock Infinite and despite barely making more then a short appearance, I really dug Daisy Fitzroy, the leader of the antagonistic Vox Populi movement in that game.

None of them are really comparable for this scenario though. Their skills would be duplicative of others if they were comparable in power level. Jade is unique enough from Jacqui and Casca though that she could fit despite also being from Mortal Kombat. A ten thousand year old Edenian bodyguard/assassin from Outworld has their own unique take on things I would imagine.
