Studying & Work; How comparing reading/watching/playing for fun is not the same as long soulless exposition

I’m more or less an intern at a company

My higher up family member has me spend huge amounts of time trying to absorb information from long books and files

He keeps on saying that since I am able to easily play videogames and read fiction for fun as well as watch TV shows and know what’s going on, I should be able to easily memorize long law books, chemistry, physiques, engineering and business

Thing is I can more easily understand the books from my school and college as well as “For Dummies” books

The stuff I’m stuck with are essentially long soulless exposition and long streams of rules and numbers and other bullshit that is all “said” without any enthusiasm or “speaking” to me like how I manage to learn from youtube vids that teach economics and history

What argument can you guys make against this repeated dumb comparison that can work?

And has anybody else felt this? I’ve been in this internship for months and I can barely read 5 pages without taking an hour and barely even knowing what the fuck I just read, much less memorize basic facts when presented that way
