Southern Han conquer Dai Viet in 923AD - Vietnam subsumed into China?

Buba

A total creep
Around 900AD, after 300 years of Chinese overlordship Vietnam rose to (regained) independence.
What if the Southern Han - or slightly later the Song - subjugated Vietnam ? Could the Vietnamese end up same as other ethnicities in southern China and identify as Chinese?
No need for dialect shift, Vietnamese (already written with Chinese characters) now being labelled a "dialect" of Chinese - like Hakka, Min (Fukien), Pinghua etc.

Mind you, at that time "Vietnam" meant only the northern bit, the Red River delta or Tonkin, without the southern "tail".

They would regain their independence after each dynasty collapsing, including Manchur in 1911.So,they would be independent, but treated by China like Taiwan.
Which mean, they need either soviet or american umbrella. No matter which,China would be invading them now.
