Well it'd be pretty tricky for a civilian, especially Rush Limbaugh, to get America's highest military honor so if these idiots think that, they are profoundly stupid then... not just ignorant or conflating the two. ;)

I honestly think that most people get their info or what they think is common sense and realistic from fiction

This is sad news. I actually grew up listening to Rush Limbaugh. After the 1992 presidential election, I really started to develop an interest in politics, particularly conservative politics, and the Rush Limbaugh talk radio show, along with his short lived TV show, became regular parts of my life. As I have gotten older, my politics started to diverge from Rush's and so now I have plenty of disagreements with him, but I still value the influence his show has had on my life - as a gateway drug as it were.

Giving him the Presidential Medal of Freedom was a good idea. Rush really has made major contributions to freedom of speech in America. When he first started out, there was barely any other conservatives voices out there and he lead the way for so many others to follow, including Fox News and numerous figures in the alternative internet media.

He hasn't just been a cheer leader for the GOP either, at times he's criticized people within the Republican Party when they veered away from the will of the GOP base and proper agenda. For years he's talked about the "country club Republicans" who are the rich and powerful left leaning people within the GOP, the same sort who became the "Never Trumpers" years later.

So I hope that Rush can survive this. If not, I'm at least glad that he was honored by the president in his last days.

Last I checked, there's a lot of innovative medical technology coming down the pipe in the next few decades; it may be that we'll live to see the end of things like cancer. Not that this is of much help to people like Rush Limbaugh now, but perhaps he can stick around long enough to get in on some early trials; I hope he does.
