Warner Brothers Games is going to publish Mortal Kombat 12... or Mortal Kombat 1 rather, since it's basically a reboot. It's expected to be released sometime in 2023.

The last time the series was rebooted was in Mortal Kombat 9 which was released in 2011 or therabouts and it was an awesome game retelling the story of the first three games before moving to do its own thing with Mortal Kombat X which jumped forward about twenty years allowing them to introduce a lot of well received new characters, and letting other classic characters really mature their character arcs.

Then there was Mortal Kombat 11 which was... a game.

It wasn't bad and in fact pretty entertaining but by doing flashbacks and nods to previous history throughout the game as the main villain was revealed to be a Time Lord (not her actual title) named Kronika was kinda weak. The Aftermath expansion that took place after Mortal Kombat 11 was pretty good though despite the time travel shenanigans and actually helped set up this reboot.

I will say the trailer, as a teaser, looks pretty neat and I'm hoping they do a good job with a classic game inspired open canvas now. We can revisit and revise the relationships between Mileena and Kitana, or the Shirai Ryu and Lin Kuei Clans etc.

The secret history of Kurtis Stryker revealed!

Most of the secret being he was passed over multiple times to include what turned out to be far more interesting characters in the early Mortal Kombat games before his lackluster first appearance in Mortal Kombat 3 where the poor guy didn't even look like a cop.

DLC Pack with the Crossover Characters Revealed.

Also the Umgadi Trailer, featuring warriors from Outworld.

Also reveals bits about the new twist on the Tarkatans and the race being replaced with some sort of parasite/infection.

Keepers of Time Trailer featuring the perpetual and unkillable Geras, protector of the Hourglass, both of which were introduced in the last Mortal Kombat.

Now he's replaced lame Kronika with a far superior God to serve in the form of Liu Kang and his efforts to make a far better timeline.

It seemed silly initially but fatality via spaghettification quickly grew on me.

The Banished trailer...

The main character feature here Reptile and his design and new powerset looks amazing. But it's also showing the return to the franchise of Havik, from the Chaosrealm and Sareena, who now has a new (and badass looking) demonic form. Also Ashrah, as the demon turned angelic demon, looks amazing as well.

Plus Kurtis Stryker as a support cameo. Very nice! His return in MK9 was well liked but the rebooted Mortal Kombat really didn't do much with it. Maybe he can get a third chance now.

All in all a great trailer with new characters and some great fatalities, especially from Reptile.

After over twenty years, Jean Claude Van Damme has finally consented to having his likeness be used for a Johnny Cage skin which is appropriate since Jean Claude Van Damme of Bloodsport fame was the original inspiration for Johnny Cage, the actor turned defender and even savior of Earthrealm.

Offical Rulers of Outworld Trailer.

Featuring Queen Sindel, General Shao (pronounced Zao?) and Earthrealms apparent champion, some Monk named Raiden.

This version of Queen Sindel seems far more likable than the one they had in the last DLC of MK11 who didn't seem to care about her family at all and she's the Ruler of Outworld as well. And a seemingly beneficent one which I feel is what she always should've been.

Shao Khan is obviously General Shao... so he's still smacking around and as ambitious as ever. Should be fun.

And MOTARO is here! One of those support characters but it's awesome such a unique character design is back in the series.

The interesting bit seems to be that Mortal Kombat seems to be more of a friendly competition between realms set up by Liu Kang and with Queen Sindel's support as well.

Many leaks but thankfully I'm ignorant so this was still a surprise to me.

New trailer of Megan Fox as Nitara, everyone's favorite winged vampire Outworlder.

So much random Mortal Kombat kontent being released.

Like now that the channel Dead Meat isn't doing Hollywood movie Kill Counts anymore due to the strikes they've decided to delve into other content... like the Mortal Kombat reboot or MK9 Kill Count based on the over two hours of cutscenes in that game.

Also Ed Boon, the longtime Game Director, on a short version of Hot Ones being interviewed whilst eating progressively spicier chicken wings.

Game releases on September 19th.

Really digging the reboot so far. Just experiencing the story mode as my partner plays through it but I am liking the reboot. It has a tight storyline so far. I think the MK9 Reboot had the issue of killing off like eight Earthrealmer characters at the end of MK9 and then pushing the storyline forward twenty years with MKX (which was still pretty neat tbh) but Netherrealm Studios has done a great job in improving the story mode and storytelling despite some Kronika missteps along the way overall.

The story mode in this new game is far more polished and the narration leading to the various fights are set up much better. No other fighting franchise really compares in the actual story mode to Netherrealm's work here (and with Injustice). The character models look great, the dialogue and voice acting is top notch and the stages are beautiful. I can't speak too much on the gameplay but my partner had to take a step down from the 'Hard' difficulty on story mode since it was apparently just too hard.

I don't see how Johnny Cage can't elevate to being one of the most popular characters yet again. The guy is just dumping amazing one liners and even really cheesy/clever callbacks to previous games with his observational humor and taking full advantage of a "normal" guy taking in the inherent ridiculousness of the Mortal Kombat setting.

Saw a few fatalities, mostly from the AI upon the player but they look great as well. Devastatingly sad since it means your ass is getting beat but still great to see. The Kameo system could use some work. Don't really use it much and it's difficult to get it to work in the Story Mode I feel since it jumps from character to character and you got to get used to it as well.

Still overall, solid gameplay and solid story mode. Looks great about two and a half characters/chapters in.

Omni-Man Trailer for his Mortal Kombat debut.

Also... the Horror YouTube channel Dead Meat did a Kill Count video (which is really a snarky plot summary with Behind the Scenes commentary) of the 2015 Fighting Game Mortal Kombat X.
