Not really surprising or noteworthy really. Russia has always only halfheartedly supported/tolerated Assad, they've been wanting to repair their relations with Turkey which opposes Assad and Assad has been making overtures to Cairo/the Arab League and Iran to be his new guarantor and patron.
Your constructing a false dilemma that Syria can only be supported by Iran or Russia or that Russia can only be friends with Syria or Turkey.
Syria has had a close relationship with Iran since the Revolution in 1979 and dispatched IRGC and Hezbollah to back Assad since 2012, almost the beginning of the conflict.
And if you apply this to say, Russia and India or Russia and China or Russia and Pakistan relations
then geopolitics will be very confusing for you to understand since there are large numbers of non-binary diplomatic relationships going on in the world that are often in states of dynamic change.
