….Why didn’t the west set them up in Madagascar after the war?

I know, I know ancestral homelands and all that, but surely that would have been a better alternative to being surrounded on all sides by people that hate them.

Or, why didn’t we just carve off a piece of Canada or the US? Washington wouldn’t have exactly been a tremendous loss.

Hell, the British probably could have given them New Zealand, right?

Why, by all that is holy, did the post war west think putting Jews next to Arabs was a good idea?

Well displacing the Malaygasy people is probably just as unjustified as displacing Palestinians if we go with that angle. Plus there were already lots of Israelis/Jews in Palestine by the time.

There are very few places to create new Homelands for people and I guess they figured Palestine made the most sense because of the historical ties and the number of Jews there plus all of the Jewish/Zionist Lobbying... and terrorism.

Bits of Canada or the United States would've been part of those countries I guess and not a Jewish State. Plus the Colonial Powers of the time weren't going to give up their territory. They're already going through decolonization. Surely they can use one of those soon to be lost territories and then bail after they set everything up. :p

Sounds like a good topic for the Alternate History forum to be honest. I'm sure it's already been done in some form.

Along with what I said above, checking out the Wikipedia entry regarding the Madagascar Plan it just didn't seem feasible for the Nazis especially to enact it since they didn't really give it any thought until 1940. Plus it was owned by France.

What's interesting is that there was a Polish idea (explored with French help) back in 1937 about a similar solution. And the entry also talked about a Uganda Plan that the British floated before then in the wake of the 1904-1905 Russian Pogroms against Jews.

Now the main issue (well one of them) is that the Polish figured that Madagascar's infrastructure could only support 5000-7000 families and Zionists stated due to that and the climate, it might only support 500 families or so. As of 1950 the Madagascar population was just a smidgen above four million people. And of course its mostly Malaygasy people.

Let us say... in 1904-05 due to the Pogroms... it is actually the French who are allied with the Russians at the time through the Franco-Russian Alliance established in 1891 decide to explore setting up a Jewish colony in Madagascar. Both Britain and elements of the World Zionist Congress and other Jewish groups tentatively back the idea... but obviously want infrastructure and investment into the place instead of just being dumped into the tropical jungle with a canteen of water.

So... with some hiccups... France, Russia, Britain and some influential Jewish groups from 1904 onward work towards the creation of a Jewish Colony in the French Colony of Madagascar, no doubt to the delight of the locals! There's interruptions... like the Great War, Bolshevism, and whatnot but it maintains momentum and is further legitimized perhaps in the Versailles Conference by the Worlds power brokers. So by 1918 there's been 10-15 years of investment into setting up the infrastructure and everything for a Jewish Colony in Madagascar and maybe.... five thousand mostly Russian Jewish families already reside there (if they survived the local climate and microfauna).

Any ideas on how his extremely optimistic origin of the Madagascar Plan approach could turn out? Good? Bad? Perpetual conflict with the locals? All die of dysentery?

i read book written by polish volunteer who helped missionaries there for year.
Highland part of Madagascar is place where white people could live, but local tribes arleady are there.
So - either jews there live as minority,or try to steal from locals, like in Palestine.
If they choose second option,we have kind of jewish South Africa.

As a result,Boers could never gave up their power, becouse why should they if jews are keeping their own state ?
