Golf Channel is reporting that Lee Elder, the first African American PGA golfer who made history in 1975 by playing in the 1975 Masters Tournament, passed away at the age of 87.

He also served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961, stationed at Fort Lewis, WA St & served under the command of Colonel John Gleaster, who was an avid golfer. Elder was put in a special services unit during his military service.

This is the first I've ever heard of him and may he rest in peace.

(The minority pro golfer of about the same age who first comes to mind is Juan "Chi Chi" Rodriguez.)
