An Ork Warboss was killed when his Spacecraft was shot down and crashed in some temperate plane. Multiple mercenary groups had laid claim to the outstanding bounty on said Warboss but need to bring his head in as proof.

Several of them are sending a squad to the crash site to find the body of the Warboss and take his head to gain credit for the bounty. There's random Orks Boyz in the area but they shouldn't be much of a threat.

Blood Pack are sending a Krogan Battlemaster assisted by two Krogan Warriors and two Krogan Soldiers. The Battlemaster has Biotic Enhanced Charge, a biotic Barrier ability that reinforces armor, and the ability to enter a rage that increases his melee damage and reduces the damage he suffers. He's armed with a Krogan Striker Assault Rifle. The Warriors and Soldiers are armed with M-27 Scimitar Shotguns. The Soldiers have the ability to course electricity into their gauntlets for even more powerful strikes. The Battlemaster and Soldiers are both equipped with Inferno Grenades. All are wearing heavy armor.

The Banished are sending a Jiralhanae Warlord assisted by four Jiralhanae Majors. The Warlord is clad in Ultra-class Silver Armor, Energy Shield and equipped with a Gravity Hammer. The Majors are given standard Jiralhanae energy shield equipped Infantry Power Armor and armed with Brute Plasma Rifles and Spike Grenades.

The Kroot are led by a Kroot Shaper and five Headhunters. The Kroot Shaper is armed with a Tau Pulse Rifle, Kroot Pistol and Grenade Belt. The Kroot Headhunters are armed with Kroot Rifles and Frag Grenades.

Victory is successful extraction of the prize. Wiping out the other groups is not necessary but undoubtedly enjoyable.

In a straight up fight, the Kroot are gonna lose. They don't have the durability of the other factions. By dint of their biotic and regenerative powers, I think the Krogan are gonna win any straight up close combat. The Brutes probably win the ranged fight...IF they can hit what they aim at.

HOWEVER, in a surprise twist, if the Kroot can use their stealth and speed to get there first and evac they could grab the win. Ideally, they'd let the Brutes and Krogan fight it out while they sneak by the distraction and take the head.

Personally imo I think the Brutes win easily in CQC due to their weight/height/strength/speed advantage plus the Gravity Hammer is gonna OHK any Krogan there, at range I think the Krogans win because low level Brute armor isn't that great we see a Brute Captain in Halo 3 get floored by one shot from Miranda's shotgun.

So the Schimitar's should 1-2 tap all the brutes but the Warlord who can probably take focused fire for a few seconds. The Kroot are plain fucked so they're better off letting the others slug it out and ambush the victor.

I see this ending one of three ways

1) Krogans get lucky and blast the Brutes down before they close distance and maybe lose 1-2 Krogans from the Warlord, then the Battle master slaughters the Kroot that didn't avoid combat. They leave with their reward
2) The Brutes do a rolling ambush and with the Warlord MVP kill the Krogans, losing 2-3 Brutes. The Warlord solo's any Kroot they come across.
3) The Brute and Krogan fight is a lot closer with most dead or heavily injured, the Kroot ambush the survivors where the War boss head is located. The Kroot win with little to no casualties.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Originally I wanted this to be a beefy matchup between Krogan and Brutes battering each other into submission but figured adding in a wildcard with the Kroot who have a fairly different style of engagement would actually be more enjoyable to discuss.

I kinda forgot to mention kinetic barriers which is a thing in Mass Effect but even with that I wouldn't think it changes things too much. They might regenerate faster then Covenant shielding, but seem more easy to overcome. And Plasma weapons are usually pretty good at melting shields regardless in the Haloverse. This might affect the Kroot Rifles more disproportionately actually.

Broadly I think the Brutes are the most versatile due to shields, armor and the four of them being armed with Brute Plasma Rifles which are longer ranged then shotguns but shorter ranged then Kroot Rifles. Plus the Warlord is well protected and durable and has that Gravity Hammer which could likely wreck anyone in short order.

The Krogan have biotic abilities and have heavy armor and shields so they could close distance and really burn down their foes with shotguns and inferno grenades as well as the Krogan Charges and the like. But I'd agree in melee combat the Brutes might have a slight advantage, with the Warlord really able to do damage thanks to the dedication to wielding a Gravity Hammer.

The nature of the engagement means the Kroot have their own advantage in that they could avoid combat or ambush one or both at an ideal time but they're squishy and both the Brutes and Kroot could close distance with them rather quickly due to their rush attacks. The Krogan might be better since their sprint attacks typically occur at the onset of combat to close distance while the Brutes typically have to be enraged and thus are likely unshielded and wounded before they try and rush you.

But while the Krogans and Brutes are pretty aggressive, powerful warrior types, neither is typically blinded by so much bloodlust, at least initially. They both have been known to do tracking and engage in ambushes and tactics and the like so while the Kroot have the advantage in mobility and choosing engagement, it's not a clear advantage and they're by far the most squishy in close combat.

I'd still, IMHO, give the Kroot the nod in achieving mission success more often then the others though due to their default desire of being sneaky and hunters and having longer ranged weapons so they can almost have a greater freedom of picking and choosing engagements in the opening stages of the mission.
