1938 – Superman begins operating in secret in the town of Cleveland, Ohio. He fights mostly ordinary criminals
1939 – The Age of Marvels begins, with the debut of the Angel. Batman begins his public career in New York City, operating from a series of secret rooms in Wayne Manor. He quickly befriends officer Pete Johnson of the NYPD, who becomes his main contact with the police force. Superman is inspired to move to New York City, where he gets a job at the Daily Bugle. As Clark Kent, he finds a love interest in reporter Bette Dean, and a close friend in photographer Phil Sheldon.
1940 – The number of Marvels continues to grow exponentially. Batman and Superman team up several times, as they are working in the same city. Batman discovers a young man with pyrokinetic powers being forced to work for a circus. He rescues the boy, named Thomas Raymond, and trains him how to use his powers safely before setting him up with a good foster family and a generous trust fund to cover his education. Thomas Raymond will go on to become an active teen hero known as the Human Torch. Batman fights many bizarre rogues, but his most reoccurring enemy is the Hyena.
1941 – Batman meets a young orphan named James Barnes, who helps him solve a case of Nazi sabotage at Camp Leigh. In the course of the case, Bucky Barnes learns that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Bruce is impressed with his spirit and skills, and adopts Bucky as his ward. He also trains him to become his crime fighting partner, Robin the Boy Wonder. Robin and the Human Torch will often team up, eventually forming the Young Allies together, and will become best friends. Wonder Woman is dispatched to Man's World by Aphrodite, and assumes the alias of Diana Prince, a nurse working for the US Army Airforce. There, she meets and falls in love with Sergeant Nick Fury. She quickly requests a transfer, and becomes an officer on the same base as Fury so she can stay close to him, while battling evil as Wonder Woman. She fights the Axis powers many times, and her arch enemy is the Red Skull.
1942 – This year, the Red Skull and his Uberkommandos launch an attack on the United States with the flying Swastika warship. A large number of Marvels join forces to defeat this attack, and Superman suggests that they form a permanent organization dedicated to pooling their abilities to defeat the forces that menace mankind. Thus the All-Winners Squad is formed. The founding members are Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Whizzer, Miss America, the Red Raven, the Thin Man, the Blue Diamond, and Jack Frost. Also this year, Superman meets and battles his future arch enemy, Baron Zemo, for the first time. On a mission from the allied high command behind enemy lines, Superman destroys a secret Nazi laboratory in a castle in the south of France. In the castle he battles Zemo, the head of the project, and in the course of the battle the hooded Nazi is dowsed in his own Adhesive X. maddened, he blames Superman for this and swears eternal vengeance. In England, Brian Falsworth assumes the mantel of Union Jack when Baron Blood returns to menace England again, and his father is too old and weak to fight the vampire. In the course of the battle, however, his sister Jacqueline is turned into the vampire slave of Baron Blood, and Brian is forced to destroy her. As Union Jack battles more Axis menaces in England, he joins forces with the Blue Bullet, the Golem, the Spirit of 76, and the new Silver Squire to form a new version of Freedom's Five.
1945 – The All-Winners Squad decides to remain together and stay active after the end of the war. Diana Prince follows Nick Fury into the CIA, and the two continue their relationship.
1949 – By this point, nearly half of the members of the All-Winner's Squad have retired, though the team still soldiers on with a reduced membership. The Human Torch is captured by communist spies, and brainwashed to fight for the North Koreans. He is tracked down and rescued eventually by Batman and Robin.
1950 – Mala, Kizo, and U-Ban crash on Earth, and battle Superman. Superman manages to trick them into knocking each other out, and then sends them into space in suspended animation.
1953 – The Blue Marvel debuts, with powers nearly identical to Superman's. Superman is delighted to have somebody he can share experiences with. He acts as a mentor to the Blue Marvel, training him to use his powers, and they become partners in crime-fighting
1954 – Superman spots a passenger ship in distress, and goes to rescue them. He finds himself face to face with King Naga, evil ruler of Lemuria. King Naga tries to use the Serpent Crown to destroy Superman, but is unsuccessful. He does however, cause Clark Kent to forget that he is Superman, and blocks him from using his powers. In this state, Clark marries Betty Dean. She quickly learns her husband is really Superman, and restores his memories by exposing him to green kryptonite. Batman has meanwhile become fascinated with the beautiful Russian femme fatale known as the Black Widow, who he has battled on several occasions. Eventually, he convinces her to defect to the United States, and after the death of her husband, the Red Guardian, Bruce marries her.
1959 – Batman finally fully retires, though he has been semi-retired since 1955. He turns over the mantel of Batman full time to Bucky. Batman II meets a troubled teenager named Rick Jones at an abusive school for orphans called Tempest Town. Bucky exposes the head of the school to the authorities and gets it shut down, finding homes for all the orphans with Bruce's help. He sees great potential in young Rick, and decides to adopt him himself, and train him to become the next Robin. Kara Zor-L arrives on Earth in a rocket, and is welcomed into the Superman Family by Superman and Blue Marvel, taking the name Power Girl. The Sentry debuts this year, and initially, Superman is pleased to train him and welcome him into the family. However, he quickly realizes how unstable Robert Reynolds is, and uses super-hypnosis to erase his knowledge of his powers
1961 – The Blue Marvel is offered the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Kennedy, and decides that he will publicly unmask, in order to show his support for civil rights. When he reveals to America that he is a black man, Superman is standing right by his side, and gives him his full support. The nation is shocked, but who can question somebody who Superman calls friend? The Blue Marvel remains active. Later this year, the Fantastic Four first gain their powers and battle the Mole Man, beginning the 2nd Age of Marvels. The Four remain based in Central City, California, because the Baxter Building is owned by the AWS. Nick Fury is called on to form S.H.I.E.L.D., and Diana Prince becomes one of his first agents. By this point, they have been lovers for years.
1962 – Several new superheroes appear this year, and within months they join forces against the evil Norse god Loki, forming the Avengers. Batman is a founding member. Bucky is a well-established hero by this point, and quickly becomes the main strategist of the Avengers. The All-Winners Squad teams up with the Avengers often. Because Rick Jones is not present to lure him onto the test field, Bruce Banner never becomes the Hulk. Johnny Storm meets Thomas Raymond, and they briefly scuffle over the title of Human Torch. In the end, Johnny decides to call himself Firestorm instead. Growing friction with Jameson finally leads to Clark Kent quiting the Daily BUgle and becoming a TV reporter.
1963 – Giant-Man, the Wasp, and Iron Man decide to resign from the Avengers, and Thor also leaves, seeing no point in carrying on when his friends are gone. Batman II is left to form a new team of Avengers. He first recruits Hawkeye, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and then reaches out to his old friend the Human Torch to join the team, so he will have somebody of experience that he trusts to support him. Batman II also teams up with SHIELD agent Sharon Carter on several missions, and the two develop a romantic relationship. Attuma unites all the tribes of Atlanteans under his rule, with only the Neptunians opposing him. He launches an attack on the surface world, but the Fin contacts the All-Winners Squad, and they stop him.
1966 – The Mad Thinker discovers M-11 on the bottom of the Hudson River. He repairs the robot, and re-activates him as a weapon against Batman. However, the Human Robot rebels against the Mad Thinker's orders, and is terminated by Quasimodo
1968 – Ultron demands the Mad Thinker provide him with an android to use against the Avengers. The Thinker gives him M-11. Ultron restores M-11, but the Human Robot also rebels against him. Ultron tries to re-program M-11 with the mental patterns of Wonder Man, and sends him to destroy the Avengers. However, the Human Robot frees himself from Ultron's control and ends up joining the Avengers.
1990 - Night Thrasher, Marvel Boy, Fury, Huntress, Speedball, Kid Nova, and Firestar form the New Warriors
