Microsoft reportedly looks to buy Discord for $10 billion

Microsoft apparently wants to make the purchase to boost it's own gaming business, perhaps especially after abandoning Microsoft's Mixer last Summer. Discord doubled the amount of users to 140 million thanks to the Chinese WuFlu and is reportedly exploring going Public soon. Some rumors about the potential purchase include Microsoft potentially tying their XBox subscriptions to Discords Nitro Account Upgrades.

Last year Microsoft was also interested in purchasing both TikTok and Pinterest but ultimate did neither. They did however execute a $7.5 billion dollar purchase of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda last Fall.

Other parties rumored to be interested in purchasing Discord earlier include both ScAmazon and Epic Games, two widely beloved companies that actually make Microsoft look good by comparison (even as Microsoft gets ruthlessly hacked and fumbles about constantly).

I don't use Discord that much, but I'm not super excited to hear Microsoft might buy up something. Skype was hitting big strides until Microsoft bought them.

Microsoft offered to buy Discord for Twelve Billion dollars but the owners of Discord passed on the offer.

Sony has already struck a minority ownership deal into Discord which will likely lead to the Discord service being integrated across various Playstation consoles but supposedly companies like Amazon, Twitter and Epic Games are all interested in purchasing Discord as well as the company looks to gather more funding and eventually go public in the future. Discord's CEO and Founder Jason Citron is looking to take advantage of an exodus from social media platforms to private chat services like Discord and plans to up the worth of his company to fifteen billion dollars.
