So a story about the Alaska Comic Con (strangely a local Alaskan paper behind a paywall) showed up in my news feed... which is novel in itself but apparently this Alaska Comic Con is the first of its kind in the State. And it's taking place in February? Brrrr...

Still pretty cool (no pun intended).

I've never really been to conventions in general, comic or otherwise but with that as a Set day, have any of you lot ever been to a fandom convention like this or other ones? And how was it? Would you recommend the experience?

Went to an anime convention (even though I don’t much like anime), a smaller comic con, and a zombie/horror con, all as a teenager. Cosplayed at two out of the three in cheap yet solid outfits, if you have the confidence or inclination to cosplay I can tell you that was the most enjoyment I got out of it. It was a lot of fun to interact and take pictures with people who liked my stuff and because my chest was lacking in breasts no one was too creepy about it. It’s also an event that’s probably better with friends to get drunk with, and if you can get into the after parties. The convention itself I found was only really worth it if you really, really wanted to see multiple of the guests or panels, because I personally found the conventions themselves to be kind of lacking in things to do.
