Rest In Peace Assassins Creed: Shadows (Taking Place in Japan's Sengoku era)

The next Assassins Creed game is supposed to take place in Sengoku-era Japan and has been worked on for the better part of a decade now, mostly with story treatments.

Supposedly, and its far from confirmed, the new Assassins Creed: Shadows as it is called, has supposedly thrown out much of the old planned storyline involving primarily Japanese characters and replaced it with the niche Black 'Samurai' known as Yasuke who was one of Oda Nobunaga's bodyguards who had brief mentions in the historical record. Despite already being fairly well known (you can see dozens of videos and articles on the exceptional story of Yasuke) Ubisoft has decided to bypass the entire Japanese male population and make Yasuke the main character of their upcoming Samurai game.

One of the early writers on the project recently disclosed what they recalled the original plot was supposed to be.

It would've had a surplus of hot ninja chicks as well...

So, for the benefit of having a reference, here are some videos on Youtube made by acrtual Japanese people that shows actual Japanese opinions and comments on Yasuke:

Videos from before AssCreed Shadows:

Having the only Black guy in Japan as one of your primary Assassins does seem like a poor idea just from the get go...

Another Japanese video covering the controversy, but what I find interesting are the comments on Ubisoft's claims about pre-orders. They can be summarized as "LOL, you lyyyiiiiing" and noting nothing on JP sites supports Ubi's claims

Also, another reason I'm posting JP videos here are the wokies, AssCreed/Ubisoft fellators and Aftocentrists are using a new tactic of accusing Japanese commenters and posters criticizing AC Shadows as fakes that use Google Translate, and whatnot

Hahaha, man, a lot of the Afrocentrist Ubisoft/Yasuke Defense Force sure went quiet when this new little bit came out:ROFLMAO: (TL;DR, Ubisoft turns Yasuke and the kunoichi MC into alphabet people icons):

Yasuke? More like YAAASSS, So Gay!

...

I'll see myself out.

Thanks to White Supremacists defending Japan like the good ol days, Assassins Creed: Shadows has now been delayed for release until February 1st 2025.

By then hopefully the furor of controversy will be over and we can celebrate Black History Month by portraying Yasuke, the greatest of all Samurai.

I'm still trying to figure out when Ubisoft (or the fans) suddenly cared about historical realism, wasn't this the same game series where you try to kill the pope and all of the most notorious pirates were all secretly good guys? It just seems like a weird hill to fight on let alone die on.

Also is Assassins creed even Assassins Creed at this point? Valhalla was a great game, but you could remove all of the AC references and make it its own IP and hardly anything about the game what change. Same with this game.

Probably because they replaced any Japanese samurai with a Black dude.

Has that sort of racial replacement happened before in the series... at least to that scale?

I mean they replaced a roman catholic assassin with a native American dude, but I mean at that time they also weren't even trying to feign historical accuracy.

Are you talking about Three?

That's the last game I tried playing. I don't remember the Native American thing being too weird. Your parentage was a British/English Templar and a Native American Woman from the introductory scene right?

Maybe, I lost intrest after Ezio, but I remember them emphasizing the native American aspect.

Ubisoft's Japanese marketing for the game stated that it was historically accurate...which upset the Japanese, because they don't have a problem unrealistic depictions of Warring States figures, but do get upset when people claim an obviously fantastic or unrealistic depiction, such as AC:S' Yasuke, is claimed as historically realistic. Japanese gamers' further examination of the trailer and promotional materials showed further inaccuracies and outright art theft (plopping Japanese and CHINESE buildings from different eras, inaccurate indications of seasons, using a torii as a village gate, using Chinese characters instead of Japanese kanji, stealing banner art assets from a historical recreating group, stealing Zoro's sword design from One Piece and claiming it's a replica of an actual katana, etc.), which implied to the Japanese that Ubisoft didn't respect their culture and was basically pissing on it for $$$$.

Further digging by the Japanese showed that Ubisoft was using some "historian's" (James Locksley, I believe his name was) inaccurate book on Yasuke (the dude basically made most of the info up), with one particular egregious part of the book referring to Japanese dealing in black slaves, except the document Locksley referred to was referring to national trade goods; one of the pronunciations for the kanji for nation is "koku" (for ex. kokuhin - state guest) which is also how one of the readings for the kanji for black is also pronounced (for ex. ankoku - darkness). As you can imagine, this really pissed off the Japanese, hence the Diet Member actually making moves to investigate Ubisoft.

>Someone trying to kill the pope
Seems pretty reasonable, it's happened before.
>Pirates being good guys
I mean it's not like they were ALL complete monsters, some probably were deep down pretty decent people
>A black 6'6 dude being a renowned samurai in the famously xenophobic nation of Japan
Uhhh, you lost me there, what now?

The issue isn't even so much that he's black, the issue is that AC fans have been waiting for fucking ages to play as a Samurai and instead of more famous figures in history or even just some made up cool Japanese dudes, we get...A fictional historical figure that IRL leftists insist existed, when his only evidence for existing is a White historical revisionist who hates Japanese people.

From what I recall he had a bunch of issues due to him being half white and his tribe seeing as an outsider. I just took it as him overcompensating his native culture due to his daddy issues.

And that's the thing. Why suddenly is Ubisoft trying claim the historical realism now when that was never a selling place of AC in the first place? Something about this game smells a foul beyond just the culture war stuff.

To be frank I expect another Golum level mess. Possibly even a Kill the Justice League.

*hear the release date for this turd gets moved again*

"Eh, I'm bored, let's see when Ubisoft's gonna shit this one out."

*March 20*

"March 20...Japan...why does that sound familiar...wait a minute..."

*check events on that day in the 90s to confirm suspicions*

*Aum Shinrikyo sarin gas attack on 3/20/1995*

FFS, Ubisoft.
