Buba

A total creep
Hopefully there isn't such a thread yet :)

My question - I looked at the wiki for the current season of the women's professional league in the USA - the National Women's Soccer League - and I can't figure out the format. I keep on scratching my head at the format.
Ten teams playing 24 games - I don't get it ... - round bobbin, everybody plays everybody twice - that should be 18 games. A triple season - everybody plays everybody three time - would be 27 games.
How do they get 24?
Anybody know and save me the horrors of trawling the web?

If you want a to see a slugfest soccer ain't it.

American Basketball when I was a growing up was an excercise in getting mugged by the defense when you had the ball. American Football requires body armour.

In Japan the top flight - the J1 - is expanding from 18 to 20 teams. This means relegating one and bringing up 3 clubs from J2. Bog standard procedure :) in football when altering division sizes.
However, what spiked my interest is that the J2 apparently will relegate its bottom two - as usual - to J3, but will bring up only two from J3. Hence J2 would contract to 20 (from 22) clubs.
J3 does not do relegation yet, thus it will "recover its losses" with two teams promoted from the JFL, the 4th - semi-pro - Tier of Nipponese football.

Anybody know more on this?

Is this the Soccer thread?

To answer my own question :)
The professional part of the Japanese football pyramid is adopting a tweaked setup from next season onward. All three leagues will play with 20 teams - and not 18+22+18 as this year - and there will be THREE direct relegation spots from each (an increase from the current two or two+playoff).
I'm not yet sure if three up-three down will apply to J3-JFL traffic as well, nor how many teams will there be in said JFL. JFL? That's the 4th, semi-professional Tier, folks.
