On that last point unlikely on a number of counts. a) Schrieffer plan - if you mean his initial memo demanded more units than Germany actually had in 1914 - including in the east - and also included breaching Dutch neutrality as well as Belgian. The form actually carried out was more realistic...

Not really. The empire was going to go by 1900 although many won't have realised at that time. Also 1914 was primarily the decisions in Berlin, initially in building up the coalition against them then deciding on a full scale war. As I've said elsewhere Germany forgot Bismarck's lessons and...

Well its a delusion anyway as Germany especially wouldn't agree to any such deal. Its meets neither their political desires nor what they think they need. I doubt in the early stages most of the other combatants would either.

By the way of course we are diverging considerably from the actual OP which as reharris1973 asked was discussion of British political development in such a scenario.

If Britain doesn't join the war and it becomes Russia-France-Serbia v Germany-Austria-Turkey then its not going to be over by Christmas. Simply because few if any of the powers will be satisfied with minor losses by assorted powers and the Austrians digging their grave deeper by butchering...

Germany Goes East first in 1914, British politics aspects only discussion

    a) If the British had properly organised the army operations and/or had a bit more luck they could have won. b) Will agree that the book matches the wiki article in disagreeing with what your claiming. The organisation was allegedly created in 1891 not centuries before and no mention of...

Don't mention the Count. You know he doesn't like publicity, especially during daytime. :p

Well it would make supplying Russia a lot easier. OTL there were substantial stockpiles of munitions and weapons stuck in Archangel/Murmansk when the revolution occurred. Probably not a massive difference in terms of supplies however. However without Britain being involved I don't see it as...

Germany Goes East first in 1914, British politics aspects only discussion

Well if there is no invasion of Belgium and hence no British entry in 1914 then its 1916 before there has to be another general election. Unless something else happens to trigger British entry before then then the issue is likely to be a revolt by the Ulster 'unionists' against the application...

Interesting character but whether he was accurate or not we will never know. Seems unlikely. However if he was telling the truth then as his wiki article points out a) The 'organisation' failed. b) He doesn't mention anything about it prompting WWI c) He clearly dates it from 1891. If...

Especially given the attitude of the German leadership and their direct threats to British security. :)

Very true. The issue is what happens when its signed. What do the unionists do, along with some elements of the army and how does the government respond. Coupled with the fact that as the 1916 coup attempted showed there were extremists on the 'Nationalist' side who didn't want a peaceful...

I don't think it was anything like as heated as the situation in Ireland but it was significant in reducing the pre-eminence of the Church of England and of course you had the 2nd most prominent member of the government definitely in favour as a Welshman himself.

There was some inflated stories about German attrocites in the press but a lot of things did occur. There was no secret council managing things behind the scenes.

Argued. You can't prove a falsehood. Although possible to decieve people under the right circumstances - such as able to present false information in ways which can't easily be challenged or when people are bias in favour of the whatever myth is being presented. That's why you still have...
