Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

I was thinking about Star Wars and I realized a problem it's been having, aside from any woke type stuff. Star Wars either... tries too hard, or doesn't try at all. Star Wars has always been a fairly simple hero's journey type story. It doesn't really NEED to be alot. But then we have people...

Any change from the old leadership is a positive. I just hope that Filoni realizes he's much better at big picture direction rather than actually directly writing/directing individual projects.

A Tarkin / Vader dynamic duo could well. I still think it all rests on legitimacy, which i'm not actually sure Vader would have. Vader may have thought he could seize power through force and... maybe that would work, but I don't think Vader has the standing in the eyes of the Empire at large to...

Yeah. I also always got the vibe that Tarkin was similar to a Thrawn in being loyal to the Empire not necessarily the Emperor. If Vader assumed the role, and assuming Tarkin recognized the legitimacy of it, I could still see Tarkin still being loyal. This one is a mixed bag. Yes, the...

If Palpatine dies pre-ANH, Vader has to contend with the Imperial Senate. We don't REALLY know the true extent of their power and influence but it was clearly not-insignificant. In ANH, Rando Imperial Officer is concerned about the attack in the beginning generating sympathy for the rebellion in...

Yeah, but Star Wars isn't really generally about nuance.

It's... interesting anyway, that the Rebels icon would be a Dark Lord of the Sith. Granted they don't know that. I did always find it funny though how the CIS could think they are the good guys while having their flagship named "Malevolence"...

High Galactic High Galactic was actually created due to the English letters used in the original version of ANH for the Tractor Beam Control.

It might more realistic sense, but it makes little story sense. Palpatine orchestrates the... Core seceding so that the Outer Rim can... conquer it and then reform the Outer Ring stuff into the Empire that now occupies the Core? They were probably better off not going to the Corporation route...

Both have their issues... but living in a semi-rural, predominantly white area while frequenting two major cities... there's a significant difference. The biggest difference is intent. Cities can absolutely be racist against white people. I know what your saying, no need to be coy. The intent...

Well yeah. It does very much seem like more Coreward aliens can get something of a pass, even if the High Humans will still consider them less. Mas Amedda is the best example. He's literally the second most powerful person in the Empire. Even Thrawn, in canon now, had less of an issue because...

Sort of, yes. Although some attitudes are reversed... It's the backwater, rural people in Star Wars who are less racist. They encounter aliens more often. The more people interact with those different than them, the less racist they tend to be. Those Core Worlders don't have to worry about all...

My old 90's kid headcanon was that The Clone Wars were the Republic, fighting against the Mandalorians, who were clones. The Republic was losing and needed to do something drastic, so Palpatine was able to seize power and create the Empire to push back against the Mandalorian clones. Young...

Yeah. One of those things better left forgotten. It has always bothered me that there never was an... heir to the Empire... in either Legends or Canon. I know Palpatine designed it that way, in Legends assuming he would just be around and in Canon out pure spite but it seemed like SOMEBODY...

A "good Empire" is certainly possible, but probably difficult to write effectively and I don't think it would be sustainable... either the Good Empire stops being an Empire and basically just becomes The Republic, or it slips back into being a Bad Empire.

I love the idea of Imperial Jedi Knights. Not Sith. Not even "Dark Jedi". Just... Jedi, who choose to serve a future iteration of the Empire. Sure they would likely verge on "Dark Jedi", almost certainly not following the same restrictions as the Republic Jedi Order but we're still talking...

I DO think the Post-Sequel Era could be interesting for exactly some of these reasons noted... it seems unlikely the Republic would get back up and running. The New Republic had the benefit of a ton of institutional knowledge from the old Republic still existing. The initial leaders of the NR...

That could work too. I just... like the Empire, so went with that. I was kind of going for a vibe of it being similar to Star Trek, but veers off due to... Empire stuff. Although I want the verboten "Actually, not all Imperials are evil" type thing where the Captain of this ship isn't some...

It's such a weird thing that... that happened. 40k does sort of work in the same regard, but not quite to the extent of Star Wars. That might play a part in it, ESPECIALLY more recently with all the pandering, but I think oftentimes writers are just worried that their villain isn't enough...
