Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

Your government, like all governments, does stupid things. The way you said it reminded me of the racist abolitionist rhetoric which basically amounted to "Send the N-words back to Africa because that's where they belong and we don't want those people here." Up until 1926 the Oregon State...

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

They did consider "petty theft" to be a crime worthy of a public hanging back then so the ones who got exiled to Australia got lucky in terms of prosecutors, judges, juries, and charges.

And there it is. I figured it would be an American or South African who said "enforced racial segregation is totally A-OK". I wasn't expecting it see it come out of an Australian. Although, Australia is where the British Empire dumped their criminals instead of hanging them.

Sorta corrected. Basically, your taxes are no different from your bar tab: it must be paid because if it's not paid you just stole something from someone and they aren't happy with you. EDIT: we're going way off-topic here and I don't want to get another thread ban, so can we please stop...

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

Less than a month ago my youngest daughter was out and about without her purse or phone while babysitting one of my nieces (her cousin). She asked a homeless guy we know for a few bucks so she could get home. He gave her $50 and said "don't worry about it".

I know about the Imam's gift because it was given to the guy before one of my sisters could give him her SUV to replace the one which had been totaled in an accident two days earlier.

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

No. Have you? Charity, like prayer, is something you should not brag about doing or call someone out for not doing so in public. An Imam from Senegal said it best as part of a sermon: "When you see someone in need, you help them." He puts his money where his mouth is. He gave a car to the...

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

No one in this thread has advocated any form of segregation beyond gender segregated public restrooms.

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

There is a road in Colorado called "The Million Dollar Highway" connecting two small towns: Silverton and Ourey. Roughly a century ago that road was more expensive to build than this: Parts of US-550 between those two towns are nothing more than paved ledge cut into the side of a cliff with...

And we won't have our bread and circuses shortly afterwards. A single mile of a two lane city street in the US costs roughly four million dollars just to build and you don't have to pay a toll to use them when you're out and about doing everyday things.

You can bitch about the level of taxation and protest that to your hearts content, but taxes are necessary. I don't particularly like that the government gets roughly half of my paycheque but someone has to pay for all the freedom we enjoy and that someone is us.

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

The Bible has an answer for this in the form of Matthew 22:21: https://www.bibleref.com/Matthew/22/Matthew-22-21.html That's basically Jesus saying "pay your taxes and don't be an ass about it."

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

Taxation is not theft. All of those little things like the sidewalks in my neighbourhood which do cost money but no one wants pay for do cost money.

My wife is from rural Oregon and my twin sis is married to a guy from East St. Louis. Those are only two of "where did your spouse come from?" my family has.

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

There is a way to do it: put on a blindfold and do not look at someone's appearance or background* when considering if they are suitable for friendship. * past activities are a different story. Sometimes they say that this person is someone you want nearby. Sometimes they say that "as far away...

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

Maybe. Someone who suddenly comes into a very large amount of money doesn't really have a neighbourhood they fit into anymore. The people who knew them before they became wealthy will try to and often do succeed at taking advantage of them. The people who are now their financial peers often...

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

I'd have to do a bit of Googling to look up and link to the news stories ... There's a black gal who won a large lottery jackpot. She bought and moved into a mansion in a gated community. Her new neighbors did not welcome her because she wasn't one of them. She made some bad decisions with her...

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

Self-segregation is people wanting to be around others with a similar background and interests. A black guy from the 'hood and white guy from a ranch in rural Montana probably aren't going to have a whole lot of shared experiences. If they both enjoy golf a random Saturday morning at public...

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

On top of what @Bear Ribs said ... Feminine hygiene products can wind up in the most interestingly inappropriate of places. Like stuck in the exhaust fan above the ceiling. I've seen that first hand while surveying the HVAC system of an all-girls HS.

Would Segregation have been wrong if it really was separate but equal?

If you want real fun, ask a woman who prefers to use men's public restrooms why she prefers the men's room over the women's room. Her answer will not be "because the line is shorter".
