Fitness General: Diet, Motivation, Body Positivity, and Memes

Allen Iverson is about my age, my height, and my weight. He's in the NBA Hall of Fame. I've never been able to dunk a basketball. He's never been asked to do engineering work. What of it?

That's Joe Lewis. My twin sister's husband would look like that if he was about two inches shorter and hadn't stopped doing PT when he left the Army over 15 years ago. I'd look like that if was two inches taller, actually worked out, and weighed 40lbs more than I'm supposed to.

I was about 160 on an ER scale last week. That's underweight for someone just a touch under 6'0".

I am a nearly 6'0" tall double amputee. I do not walk without shoes. I have to tell people that I only have 4.5 toes.

Might I suggest ballet dancing as an alternative? Some NFL football players practice it as part of their training regimen ... https://focusdancecenter.com/whyfootballplayerstakeballet/#:~:text=Ballet%20and%20Dance%20are%20a,part%20of%20their%20training%20regimen.

People about the same size as my siblings and I do have "you need to go on a diet" BMIs. BMI numbers are complete bullshit.

My sisters are all a little less than 6'0". Most American men aren't that tall.

Or if they're just naturally big ... Calling one of my sisters "fat" to her face is an exercise in finding out just how quickly an upset woman who weighs about 200lbs can move when she's upset with you.

Weird thing about walking instead of jogging, sprinting, or running: you burn roughly the same amount of calories per mile but don't get tired. It just takes longer to get there. Running a marathon? Good luck with that. Walking a marathon? Let's meet up for dinner in about nine hours - give or...

Let's not turn this into a dick-waving contest. If I have to do fieldwork I won't be the guy carrying the heavy stuff. I'll be the guy with a clipboard, some paper, and a sharpie directing traffic and writing everything down.

I looked it up. Those are about 10-20lbs lighter than a 10ft ladder. They are also crew-served weapons.

I was pointing out that an architect or engineer who isn't seated at a desk needs to bring a whole bunch of heavy and awkward to carry stuff with them.

The bag weighs roughly 100lbs. Toss in the ladder and roll of drawings ... welp, you Army guys aren't asked to haul around that much bullshit when you're hoofing it.

*shrugs* Age and injuries catch up with you and I don't really need to stand for more than a few mintes at a time unless I'm doing fieldwork ... at which point a roll of drawings, a ladder, a 2ft-by-3ft clipboard, and a messenger bag filled with tools @Zachowon might have trouble lifting get...

So we're about the same size and I think the highest I've gotten up to is about 245lbs (111kg). As for walking. It's good that you get out and stroll for the kinds of distances you describe. I can't do that anymore. I can only stand for about two hours (three, tops) before paramedics get called.
