    So what are you watching?

The first two rounds are where all the fun happens. If Farleigh Dickenson wins tonight a #15 and #16 are in the sweet 16 while two of the #1s and a #2 have already been sent packing.

@prinCZess, If you're watching Shakespeare I highly recommend Kenneth Branaugh's production of Hamlet. It's the only unabridged film version. It clocks in at just over four hours ... which is probably why it's the only unabridged film version.

My favorite anime is Princess Nine. I have a weird connection to that anime. Seira - the delinquent with bright red hair - is based on a gal named Seira who I knew when that was new to American audiences. The anime/manga Seira is much toned down when compared to the real Seira Morimura just to...

Ep: 25 and 26? They ran out of money but still had to produce two more episodes to fill the TV slots.

If you liked the earlier film versions of All Quiet I'll suggest the novel No Hero for the Kaiser for you to read. It was originally titled Der Schädel des Negerhäuptlings Makaua - "The skull of the negro chief Makaua". It was written at about the same time as All Quiet and was also banned by...

    So what are you watching?

Well, this is a thing ... Moonshiners. It's hilarious. In the ep. they start with fresh spruce sap. Along the way they turn it into beer and then distill it. Channel surfing, FTW! EDIT: Now they're onto Peach Brandy and discussing a still from the 1930s.

Christmas at the Ranch It's a western which Tubi has in their LGBTQ+ section that's actually really good. That the two main characters are lesbians is just kinda-sorta there in a "you could replace one of them with a guy and not really notice the difference" manner because LGBT issues are not...

    So what are you watching?

Fail Safe (1964) and The Merchant of Venice within the past few days. The former is a Cold War film about a hypothetical "nuclear oopsie" where faulty procedures and a computer malfunction result in both Moscow and New York getting nuked by the USAF. NYC was the US telling the Soviets "we're...

    So what are you watching?

Street Fighter It is not a good movie by any stretch of the immagination until you realize that Raúl Juliá was terminally ill with cancer and went all out playing M. Bison in a film based on a game his kids enjoyed.

    So what are you watching?

Tubi had a documentary on the Battle of Jutland I watched today going into why three British battlecruisers went "BOOM!" while none of the German battlecruisers did. It's been clear for quite awhile that all three suffered magazine explosions. This one tries to answer "Was there a fatal design...

Tubi has some really good documentaries. Watched this last week ... Trafalgar: The Greatest Naval Battle in History: https://link.tubi.tv/HRgrcotCGub It's a French film describing it, the events leading up to it, and the aftermath from vice-amiral de Villeneuve's perspective. Villeneuve knew...

That might be interesting to watch. When the book it was based on was was written sending two people into space at the same time so one could do a space walk was "we're just guessing". Just a few years later and around when the film you mentioned was released Apollo 13 happened. That was "How...

    So what are you watching?

That's the most enjoyable thing about both of those films. Costner did it way better and I very much like Dances With Wolves and Robin Hood. EDIT: You'd be hard pressed to find a Kevin Costner film I don't like. With Tom Cruise it's "eh, whatever" with a side of "take it or leave it". "Leave...

The final battle was the entire point of the movie. In order to get to the final scene Captain Algren had to be surrounded by stupid ... and he's not too bright either.

    So what are you watching?

Princess and I watched Wargames (1983) last night. Princess thinks it's a comedic farce because computers and networks back then weren't capable of pretty much everything the film has one do. She was laughing the entire time. The best computer you could buy back then was a Cray-1 and we've got...

    So what are you watching?

By about 1600 (i.e.: 275ish years before when the film is set) the Japanese had more matchlock firearms than the English did and were writing illustrated drill manuals telling you how to effectively use one in the middle of the night during a windy thunderstorm ... which is exactly when a...

    So what are you watching?

The Last Samurai The battle scenes would make any reenactor of a late Civil War battle ask WTF? because late Civil War armies were digging trenches whenever possible and didn't fight in out the open unless they had to. Hollywood tactics suck.
