What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

Yep, but even some Democrats, such as Dianne Feinstein, opposed this back then, saying that one's loyalty is determined by one's birthplace. That's the single reason that I voted against her andin favor of Kevin DeLeon in 2018. As an immigrant to the US, I was simply outraged by that statement...

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

Libertarians such as Ilya Somin are critics of merit-based immigration systems because they don't require natives to pass an equivalent merit test. Would you approve of IQ testing in immigration policy for this purpose? As in, allowing people with high IQs to immigrate here even if they...

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

A lot of Americans' ancestors actually came here after 1840, which is when our first great post-independence immigration wave began. Hillary Clinton, for instance, if I recall correctly, doesn't actually have any ancestors who lived in the US before 1840.

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

We don't make US citizenship available to everyone who wants it because we don't have anything comparable to open borders. Well, at least Eastern Europeans are lucky in that regard. Their countries have very few Muslims (other than Russia), after all.

Because their parents have no connection to the US? Of course, you could say "You are not your parents", but then why not make US citizenship available on demand to anyone who wants it?

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

What European country did your own ancestors come from? Would you have preferred to have lived there or in the US right now?

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

By that logic, though, the ancestors of present-day Americans were likewise wrong in leaving their own home countries, no? For instance, my own parents were wrong in leaving Russia and moving to Israel and then leaving Israel and moving to the US, no?

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

Not sure that it's a misinterpretation. Illegal aliens are also subject to the jurisdiction of the US, are they not? But Yes, I do agree with your general premise here.

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

Then you'd already fail in that regard since a child born in the US to Russian or Chinese birth tourists and who'd be raised in Russia or China would be eligible to run for the US Presidency after they met the residency requirement.

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

Because we as a society claim to oppose discrimination based on national origin in other contexts?

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

Sure you could. Had the original US Constitution (purely hypothetically) explicitly allowed for segregated schools and/or anti-miscegenation laws, then the 14th Amendment could have nullified this part of the original US Constitution. Heck, the 14th Amendment could have done this even if it...

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President?

What are your thoughts on amending the US Constitution in order to allow naturalized US citizens to become US President? Or, alternatively, using the 14th Amendment to declare that any US state legislation enforcing the natural-born citizen requirement for the US Presidency would itself be...
