    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

I don't remember a conversation about that except that the Excalibur was built by Garibaldi et al.

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

I wouldn't be surprised if they just grow the crystal directly onto the hulls of their ships.

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

Don't know that I agree that Zack, at that point, wouldn't be able to restrain Vir's potential excesses. He did go to the mat with Garibaldi a time or two.

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

Vir needs a G'Kar. Unfortunately, Lennier is just not really available if the script goes somewhat true.

I certainly hope so. Vir is one of my favorite characters! Babylon 5 Vir answers Mr Morden - YouTube

B5 always felt a little like Mass Effect in that civilization is anchored to specific points to a large degree. Relays constrain things much more in ME, but expanding the Jump Gate network is NOT a small endeavor. It was doable, but I only ever saw the EA mentioned as making an effort at it in B5.

    1. The Shadows and Vorlons had them b/c they wanted something that could destroy a planet and move on to do it again in not so short order. That and it's a huge fear factor. Young races go, "OMFG!!! We're all gonna die!!!!" It gets the job done thoroughly, whereas a fleet orbital bombardment...

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

There's no need. The weaponry deployed on B5 ships is quite capable of rendering planets uninhabitable. Will need more than one shot, but there you go.

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

Only issue I have with nBSG vs B5 is of the B5 Weaponry. Neutron lasers and other advanced energy weapons will tear a Battlestar apart. I don't even want to think of what a squadron of White Stars or the like would do to them. Battlestar would never be able to bring their heavy guns to bear and...

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

I loved the write-up he has for his super spinal pulse laser of doom, "Can overpenetrate the armor of 1st Ones!!!" I'll stop now so as to desist in my derail...

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

I just went through the ships there. Good lord, he's WAY overdoing the size of those ships. The USS JFK Carrier displaces only 100k tons. The EFNI Vigilante, an Escort vessel, displaces 10.8 MILLION tons. Frankly, that's ridiculous.

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

My biggest problem with the Human ME ships is the exposed engines. NOT something the Earth Alliance would do in B5 'Verse.

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

Not so. In this AU, the EA will have gravitic tech. So their smaller escort, like the Hermes, would be easily upgraded to make it a more efficient long term escort than a Heavy Cruiser. Though, in real world terms, a Light/Fast Cruiser is likely the best platform for Escort duties. Large...

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

Well, in the case of expanding your merchant fleet, I'd also rapidly build up the smaller escort ships AND use them as test beds for military hardware...though you risk getting said hardware taken by a heavy raiding force IF they can disable said escort.

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

So what if you spend that heavily. Everything you build is still just going to play 'target' for Minbari Neutron lasers and their Stealth tech makes you impotent. THAT is one of the big reasons it didn't happen that way in they show. Earth found themselves laughably outclassed. EDIT: IF...
  16. The Whispering Monk

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

Birth rates were never really gone into depth on the show, but I have a feeling the complete ritualization of Minbari lives is what's directly responsible for that...not something the Vorlons did. As for what Humanity becomes...I think that was left open ended enough that I'll just agree to...
  17. The Whispering Monk

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

I never got that from the show. What drew you to that conclusion? That's a philosophical debate between nature and nurture. It's also a conclusion I don't agree with.
  18. The Whispering Monk

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

Umm...you did watch the show right? Minbari and Human souls were merging/exchanging and points to a mingled purpose, not one above the other. Sure, a lot were portrayed as extremely arrogant. So are a lot of the humans we see portrayed. However, we get a MUCH smaller sample size of Minbari...

HAH! Admiral Hamato, always willing to take one for the team.
  20. The Whispering Monk

    Babylon 5 A Fighting Chance --- A Babylon 5 AU

Meh, they were made up of their past. Faced extinction at the hands of the Shadows, only to be saved by the Vorlons delivering their Prophet (Valen) and a star base to anchor their fleets. I'd like to see the Minbari get back their own, and, frankly, I'd like to see Jha'dur get her just...
