I have personally found that lowering settings with a lot of modern games do give you more frames, but nowhere near as much as lowering settings on older games with older hardware. What games have you been enjoying lately Vyor! ;D

I'll admit the biggest issue with 32 bit systems is the limit on RAM. Applications aren't going to use more than 4 gigabytes and that limits just how much crap can be in an application. That isn't to say I am pleased with the current prediction of 32 gigabyte requiring games with less content...

I didn't get the remake exactly for the reason that I refuse to buy bloated games. The OG game with the fan-made HD pack runs on potato PC's, keeps the style of the game, and merely makes the textures reasonable on modern displays. It holds up shockingly well.
