Sci-Fi Tech Combat Armor Aesthetics and Utility In Fallout and Science Fiction

I always liked 'heavies' in games, they're pretty silly when you put too much thought into it. But if you got the Mountain's actor and slapped as much armor as he could walk around with, you could get something close.

It is of course, a reference to Mad Max 2, FO1 had the same suit with 'leather jacket'. https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Leather_jacket_(Fallout) I like the Leather Armor in FO1-2 as well, good choice! ;D I always liked how it has higher AC than metal armor, to signify it's lesser weight making...

FO3/NV Combat armor in general is just pretty neato and similar to the OG combat armor. ...Now that I think about it, FO3/NV armor in general holds up very well, the leather armor looks perfect.

The thing is, those muscles ARE the armor. Its a two-in-one scenario. Same way a tank's armor doubles as it's structure. The artificial muscles look kinda weak but they're tougher than anything else anybody is wearing.

The KillZone Space-NotNazis are truly awesome in design.

God damn it annoys me that Crysis as a franchise turned out as it did. Probably the only FPS I am aware of that makes you genuinely feel like a high-tech superhuman monstrosity capable of tanking rockets to the face and meleeing alien squids to pulp. Damned suit has advanced AI, heals your...

I always liked how a lot of combine forces used soft-padded armor instead of the more sci-fi traditional hardsuits/plates. The fibres might come from another planet, and soft armor has benefits like flexibility and good coverage. Granted it's typically weaker than ceramic plates and such, but...

The noosphere is a real thing in Stalker-game-verse, yus! But we don't exactly know what happened to the scientists after they died. While they were alive they had god-like powers, could control the zone and all that. But afterwards it seems the zone took on a will of it's own, a lot more random...

Sci-Fi Tech Combat Armor Aesthetics and Utility In Fallout and Science Fiction

Basically the nutshell explanation of the Stalker games is some crazy scientists thought they could improve humanity, except they ended up magic-nuking Chernobyl instead, resulting in reality-altering nonsense. Canonically said scientists are killed off in the first game, making the Zone's...

Yeah a lot of stuff is learned from the anomalies/artifacts. For example gauss rifles are basically impossible IRL due to energy storage limitations. But fragments of artifacts can be used to power such weapons and make them practical!

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R franchise. ;D Its the end-tier armor that is good at pretty much everything but because it's a janky prototype made in a ukrainian garage, you can't sprint while wearing it. You can however get an upgrade which re-enables sprint in the third game.

I always thought the stalker power armor was pretty neato. NBC protection, frame to support weight and enhance strength, integrated body armor over quite a lot of the body, etc. Valuable tool in the otherwise hostile and unpredictable zone.

Oh I know this already, however Fallout is the land of Godzillas, hulk mutant monsters, Dr Who, Elvis Presley robbing aliens, and Star Trek all within the same universe. It's made doubly canon due to a certain (nonfunctional sadly) New Vegas Perk "In Shining Armor" where mirrored shades can...

See funny story, but simple metal armor is actually better against lasers than combat armor (75 DR and 6 DT for metal, 60 DR and 8 DT for combat armor). So I doubt combat armor is tooooooo thick. The reason metal armor is better against lasers? And this is going to sound retarded but it's true...

I agree, modular stuff existed for quite some time, but I'm not too sure if modular stuff fits the OG Fallout design theme too well. I also have problems with the damned AR-15 with rails in NV.

The issue with nu vs old combat armor IMO is that the old armor actually looked like some sort of suit you could put on as an individual within a short amount of time with minimal training. Makes sense given it was actually sold to civilians in high numbers, and intended for use with mass...

50's is like...M47 tanks, M14 rifles, early weird body armor prototypes and bazookas. FO4's style is more like insane dieselpunk crossed with WW1 and a few drops of 1960's.

I'd prefer Classic Combat armor over this god damned abomination.

I mean the game came out in the late 90's, aside from Aliens (the staple of space marines), what other sci fi was running around with that look? 40k has flak armor but 40k while popular within some groups is still pretty obscure on the whole.
