Japanese comedies do tend to have an issue with repeating the same joke over and over again, long after it stopped being funny to most people outside of Japan. It's one of the main reasons a lot of anime comedies don't do well in the west; well, that and their love of wordplay-based comedy that...

Touhou doesn't have a canon; or at least, not one it strictly adheres to beyond at most general summaries. Characters and events even in official works differ from game to game, and manga to manga. Sometimes things happened one way, sometimes another; sometimes Reimu acts prideful and arrogant...

Keep in mind though, the church in D.Gray Man is depicted as a horrifically evil organization, which has done things Josef Mengele would have approved of, that commands the loyalty of the main cast only because they ultimately oppose even worse monsters.

Personally, I don't intend on ever giving the show a chance to impress me. The whole thing just reeks of daytime soap opera drama, which I have no interest in whatsoever, and the "isekai" reincarnation angle is just a setup gimmick that doesn't amount to anything from what I've heard from...

Partly; but they're also taking cues from Sword Art Online, who's popularity kickstarted the isekai genre (though it itself wasn't actually an isekai story, and instead was about people being trapped in a video game).

Not as many as you'd think; though the ones that are, are usually pretty good. Most however, are actually based on Dragon Quest. John Carter of Mars belongs to the sword and sorcery subgenre of fantasy, right alongside Conan.

Been thinking about SSSS.Dynazenon (and by extension, SSSS.Gridman and pretty much all of Studio Trigger's output) lately, thanks to the Gridman Universe film that came out a little while ago, and I believe I've finally solidified my opinion of it. Trigger has this habit of using high-concept...

That's more an issue with harem protagonists in general, not just the ones in isekai. Too many end up acting like prepubescent boys trapped in the bodies of teenagers/young adults; fleeing in terror any time a member of the opposite sex shows any interest in them whatsoever.

In my opinion, the obvious answer to the question of "which girl ends up with Ash" is "yes".

From the sound of things, Witch from Mercury seems to be an attempt to mashup G Gundam with Revolutionary Girl Utena.

I never understood the appeal of Tanya. I suppose I was too weirded out by the fact that they're a man reincarnated into the body of a girl. Thankfully it seems the old "anime as advertisement for the source material" model that was popular for a while is being phased out in favor of treating...

I disagree; but then I can read subtitles so fast, it feels like I can understand Japanese. Plus, I like listening to people speak it; it's a beautiful language.

Anno has never really treated his audience as anything other than a burden, and I suspect he's long since grown to despise the medium he built his career on.

Something I've noticed about Ascendance of a Bookworm is that plot gets very shojo; to the point where it comes across as more reminiscent of older isekai like Fushigi Yugi than its contemporaries, and some of the light novel spoilers I've read wouldn't have felt out of place in The Rose of...

By the way? The Bastard anime is absolutely amazing. It kinda messed with my head a little bit with how different it was from the 1992 OVA, but apparently its far closer to the source material then that was, and is also somehow far more raunchy. I mean seriously; look at this ending sequence:

...What the fuck? Not that I'm complaining, but seriously; what the fuck?! Apparently they announced this back in February, and yet this is the first I've heard that this was going to happen; I wonder how much of the manga they're going to cover, or how they're going to deal with the fact that...

They also seem to despise anime as a medium, and the Japanese as a culture. I suspect they consider their current occupations to be beneath them.
