From reading the article, the kid seems to think the FBI will take care of him now that he's betrayed his family for them. He's in for a rude awakening once they no longer have any use for him.

Pretty much the only times I've ever heard of a single parent doing a decent job of raising their kid(s), is when they actually had a spouse helping them out early on, and at some point one of them either died or they amicably divorced.
