    Star Wars The Ahsoka Show

It would be fun -- I've always liked Zsinj -- but I really doubt we'll see anything like it. Filoni only used Dathomir because it's "his" Dathomir, from TCW. Which overwrote anything seen in the EU previously. He gives zero fucks about the books and whatever is in them. He cares about his own...

    Star Wars The Ahsoka Show

Fundamentally, all the real problems with SW (and most media nowadays) are writing problems. All other stuff is just marginal. Occasional blad directing or uninspired set design, for instance, are no real issue is the writing is good. But the writing, these days, is rarely good.

    Star Wars The Ahsoka Show

I really think the 'above average' can't be justified by reasonably objective metrics. It was average. The good outlier elements outnumber the bad outlier elements, but the structural shortcomings (pacing, plotting, degree to which it delivers upon the implied promise...) drag it down again...

    Star Wars The Ahsoka Show

I'm not going to be too harsh on Filoni for any of this. As I understand it, Rebels played very well with its target audience, and although it was not exactly made for me, it's a good animated series for a fairly young audience. A:TLA is generally held to have way better writing than most kids'...

    Star Wars The Ahsoka Show

At the end of the day, having watched it as a whole, this series a regrettably mediocre thing overall. It's not offensively bad or "subversive" like certain Disney-era productions, but it offers no actual greatness, either. It has certain highlights, which I've mentioned in previous comments...

I can see it in the forehead and the hair. Especially when you look at them in profile.

    Star Wars The Ahsoka Show

Personally, I'm firmly in the "let villains be villains" camp. The tendency towards endless relativism has, overall, been detrimental to story-telling. This doesn't suggest Thrawn has to be like Palpy or Tarkin, but I do feel that he should be a bad guy. Just a practical one, which is different...

    Star Wars The Ahsoka Show

He's not "manic dark wizard" evil, but he is "shell civilians in the name of order and authority" evil. And that's how I like him. Basically, Zahn's tendency (in the books) to make Thrawn more and more of a misunderstood "all for the greater good" type of quasi-hero never sat well with me. And...

    Star Wars The Ahsoka Show

Okay, so, some actual thoughts on this series, so far: -- Ahsoka is well-acted, certainly, and her design is slightly improved (the headtails look much better now). In the first four episodes, Rosario Dawson played her in a rather taciturn way, which clashed with her animated incarnation. This...

    Star Wars The Ahsoka Show

Thrawn wasn't exactly young in HttE, either. Best estimate (using Mist Encounter as a reference, which is in 19 BBY, and wherein he's implied to be c. 20 at the youngest) tells us that by HttE, Thrawn was at least 49. That's ten years younger than Lars Mikkelsen. While this portrayal doesn't...

    Star Wars The Ahsoka Show

What @Bacle said. I feel that the first four episodes could have been two episodes (of 40 minutes each, excl. credits), but this fifth episode is a whole other thing. One thing that really caught my attention is that everybody (myself included) was annoyed by the "stoic, arms-crossed stance...
