As a girl, I am well aware that it does take a lot of work and effort to go from "basically pretty" to "model gorgeous". However, that's not the actual skill/work that the Miss [X] competitions supposedly promote in order to justify calling themselves talent shows as opposed to beauty pageants.

Sure, but that's essentially coincidental. There are people who happen to be *both* attractive and talented, but talent isn't actually a factor in winning any of these pageants. It's just an absurd pretense that they're anything but beauty contests.

As far as I'm concerned a private business can largely do as it pleases, but the Miss USA pageant needs to dispense with the absurd pretense that it's a "talent" show.
