Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a discussion thread and retrospective

My two cents about it is Xander's standout trait is his loyalty -- you can plausibly set him up with pretty much any of the girls in the early cast, but once you do, it's very out of character for him not to stick to that relationship with tenacity. I can see him not handling conflict within a...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a discussion thread and retrospective

Well, part of the problem there is that if you take the series seriously, Buffy's mandate as a Slayer comes from a British organization that has no lawful authority in the United States, although they apparently have enough soft influence to muddle through to a degree. The meta-plot makes it...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a discussion thread and retrospective

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a discussion thread and retrospective

Darla pulled pistols on Buffy and specifically mocked her for using a crossbow, and the Council's tactical teams were equipped with firearms. Given the way the Council treats Slayers, it's heavily implied that the lack of access to modern weapons is one of the ways they ensure that Slayers have...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a discussion thread and retrospective

I think it's less "Evil Patriarchy" and more "of course the rich, centuries old, semi-hereditary shadow organization with no accountability is corrupt". The modern day Watcher's Council values the Slayer being *under their control* a lot more than minor performance improvements. Otherwise...
