    Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

Last time, it seemed it was basically just a distraction to get the Russians to shift their units elsewhere, as well as for morale purposes. I wonder what their aim is this time?

    Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

While it's impressive how long the Ukrainians managed to go without losing any of them, as the war ground on, losing at least some became almost statistically certain.

Do you not understand how desperate comments like this make you look? It's pretty obvious you're grasping at straws here.

As recently as the 1980's, such things were much more feasible. Truly globalized supply chains are a much more recent thing; until the 90's, it tended to mostly be raw materials imports, and finished product exports.

    Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

Corruption and disdain for human life will do some nasty things to your civilization. Russia threw away millions of people trying to prove that plants were 'socialist.' They haven't even lost a million to this war yet, and they do still have more land than they started with. This is entirely...

Can counter artillery and conventional anti-air. Part of the reason for what we're seeing right now, is because this is the first large-scale war with mass-deployment of low-end drones. Not only was neither side prepared for it, but neither side has the technological and economic base to...

    Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

Not really. Such an anti-Putin crowd might keep a couple of the old oligarchs alive to pass off to the west for war crimes trials as sacrificial goats, to try to end sanctions. I can't really think of any other way Putin supporters would survive such a complete upset of the power structure though.

    Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

At this point, Ukrainian counter-bombings like this are starting to just become a regular aspect of the war. That's pretty significant.

    Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

And yet for all these advantages, some real, some over-hyped and less-real, the Ukrainians are gaining ground far faster than the Russians have in any of their offensives in the last year. Sure, a lot of people were hoping for a crushing offensive like in Kharkiv, or steady advance like around...

    Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

This is a very stupid game for Putin to be playing right now. As long as the war is 'just' in Ukraine, a lot of people can convince themselves that the war is 'over there,' contained in some 'other place' that they don't have to worry about touching them. Pushing it out to the far side of...

    Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

Aye. Just like some people are going 'ha ha Winter weak' right now, we'll probably see at least one serious storm come through, and the vatniks going 'ha ha Winter strong' then. We won't know what the overall severity of the Winter is until we get through to Spring.

Tu-141 implies Russian manufacture. They may have been sitting in someone else's arsenal, but there are good odds it came from the Russians themselves.

Not exactly surprising. When your morale is already hanging by a thread, announcing a general retreat rarely leads to well-maintained discipline.

    Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

The scary thing, is that Belarus is the logical place to launch a nuclear strike towards Kyiv. If the Russians actually nuke a city, even with 'just' tactical-grade weapons, then the entire world is going to have to make a decision about whether or not a rogue state willing to do that can be...
