Gun Political Issues Megathread. (Control for or Against?)

Really? I've heard really bad things about Kimber 1911s, especially for the price.

With Kimber, I don't think you're paying the $1000 for the tacticalness, you're paying for it saying "Kimber" on the rifle.

The idea that detachable box magazines in particular are only useful if you're "cosplaying SWAT" is ridiculous, I think most modern bolt actions have one.

Agree with the point but demographic differences are a confounding factor here. Maine is 94% White, 1% asian, 2% hispanic and <2% black. Chicago is like 32% White, ~5% asian, 29% hispanic, and 32.4% black. Of course, a progressive can't say this, but they'd talk about "urban environments" and...

“Everything is actually class warfare” is pretty much textbook Marxist theory. And not really accurate or useful.

I doubt it, as they certainly wouldn’t be enforceable and it would be basically free political clout to take them off the books. What I could find was pretty scant as well. There was the Black Codes early on - and I have no doubt that the South attempted to and did restrict black ownership of...

What federal gun control acts did the KKK support?

Bundy Ranch, like a couple years ago. Also like every March for Our Rights, arguably. Firearms can be used as a political tool without actually being fired - their presence among any group and the potential of their use raises the force required to disperse them, in many cases beyond the point...

"States" aren't a coherent entity, and there is really not many people in the highest levels of state level politics who have an interest in state interests only - they share an elite, more or less. Think this misunderstands what motivates people tbh.

Amazon doesn't allow the sale of any firearms or ammunition. Yeah, Britain and Japan both have restrictions on airgun energy, and the restriction aren't on just the high end stuff that can approximate a firearm in power, it hits most bb guns.

Yes, mandatory licensing in order to exercise our right to keep and bear arms is gun control, and it is also a policy goal and talking point for democrats, down to the "just like cars!" thing, as if one needs a license to own one on their own private property, and as if guns were not a...

I mean no, reading his posts that's not what he thinks and not what he's getting at. That's what you think and are getting at. He doesn't think it's stupid - he think what they're teaching isn't really leftist or "really" critical race theory, probably because he already agrees (and agreed) with...

Yes, I'm pretty sure you don't actually disagree with us about the facts of this here, who you disagree with about whether there'd be some "split" in the Army in the context of the situation in Biden's speech on the 2nd amendment is @Zachowon, who was the only one here who thinks that would...

Right, but just saying "what the fuck are you teaching us" isn't actually anything, and is just going to get the response of "idk what my boss told me we have to do, just sit through it." And at least going off the people I know, this is less them saying "what the fuck are you teaching us" and...

The specification of US Soil is bizarre and not really relevant, but it's not really about "want." It's like with police (which is pretty relevant even to the military, given there's a lot of crossover), and anything. It's not enough that police don't want to carry out, say, red flag orders...

Expect and prepare for the worst, anything that turns out better will be a pleasant surprise. They do shoot paper citizens oversees though. Granted, paper citizens aren't actually Americans, but there's no legal distinction or distinction that most people consciously recognize. IMO...

Back on the subject of guns, the ATF has renewed it's attempts to enact de facto legislation that pistols equipped with a brace are short barreled rifles via proposed rule ATF 2021R-08. This would criminalize firearms that are commonly used by millions of law abiding gun owners for a variety of...

This reasoning is ridiculous, as "originalism" is always defined as basing their interpretation on the "original public meaning." The idea that the original public meaning of the civil rights act was understood as legalizing homosexual marriage or mandating treating trans-identified males as...

Eh, I hope so but he seemed the least solid from a judicial ideology perspective, pre-nomination, as at least IIRC of the three he was the one most toward judicial conservatism rather than originalism. All three have aspects of them that are encouraging and aspects that are warning signs, and...

Just going off past probabilities, IMO it’s pretty likely that at least one of Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Barrett turns out to be a bad pick who screws us over. Or that on any given issue at least one of them is unreliable. Obviously I’m hoping not, but IMO relying on the courts is a mistake.
