If there were, that ship never would have hit the bridge. The entire point of what I'm talking about is to put something solid between the bridge supports and anything that might hit them. Usually that takes the form of what amounts to a big concrete island around the bridge supports, but it...

It's just appalling that given how many collisions and collapses there have been, just in the US, that there wasn't already reinforced pilings in place.
