I would point out it turned out really, really bad when he tried that, and that it was largely luck/narrative fiat that when the dust settled the result was the clans and not a bunch of smoking rubble.

No, it's....well, it's not actually good for anything, hence it being a joke. But in theory it was supposed to be for recon. The charger would actually be a very bad at riot control, as it has no nonlethal weapons, and while it's immune to anything a crowd of protesters could do to it, any mech...

Not really, at least if you mean the 1A1 model charger, which is completely ineffective in combat. The malice is just criminally undergunned in comparison to it's peers, but it would wipe the floor with a charger.

I considered that, but I wanted to keep the modular armor from the YZ vs use something that no canon version of the mech carries. After all, the idea is to build a better Malice, not a better 100 ton assault mech, there's lots of those. Hardened armor is dope though, on that we agree. It's why...

Eh, that feels more like you're just building an IS Warhawk vs a Malice.

Here's my current design, which started out as a malice XV and then I started swapping in bits of the YZ until I couldn't fit in anything else. Ended up only having to drop the ferro-lam, ams, and ecm. The idea is to use the modular armor to soak hits as it closes to effective range, and...

Big Red put out a video on the Malice, a Dark Age Republic design. He's not very kind to it, for good reason: But this has me in the mind to see what can be done with the basic ideas the malice plays around with. So here's the challenge, design a better Malice. Design goals: Must have 4/6...

I'm not sure I'd go that far. It's inefficient and outclassed by other other weapons, but I wouldn't say it's bad on it's own merits (as judging by that metric most IS weapons are bad). Just niche, and battletech has lots of niche weapons. Though I was wondering what the statline of a properly...

Most of the guys in my local group were $150 and up, plus various add ons (eg, "I was gonna buy x anyway, guess I'll grab it as part of this pledge and toss in a few more bucks" and the like), so I think you're just underestimating how much the average backer is putting in.

Yes, but I'm sure conquering groups have managed to remain culturally isolated from the previous targets in the past as well, and it seems like a rigidly hierarchical system like a clan would be particularly resistant to that sort of intermingling?

Battletech BattleTech discussion thread: May the light of Hanse Davion guide us

Probably not. A few guys in a Leopard or something small hitching a ride on a jumpship is going to mean the clan is down one small dropship and take up one collar on jumpship, I don't think that will really impede the clans operations overall. Even if thry have a dedicated jumpship, I don't know...

Seekers are like 1 lead warrior, maybe some other warriors but maybe not, his chronicler, and a few techs and other support personnel. The Scorpions can certainly spare a handful of guys to run around looking for some SL era junk, it's not like the Empire will collapse if a star of warriors gets...

"There's no precedent for a refugee fleet retaining technology, except for all the times that happened, including every single time a clan has moved and when the SLDF did it".....that's not a very convincing argument. And that attrition required the Inner Sphere to engage in a centuries long...

Battletech BattleTech discussion thread: May the light of Hanse Davion guide us

Ok, well there's decades of precedent against the idea that a migrating clan will have it's tech base degrade in the interim, and even more precedent against the idea that hardware can easily be worn away by attrition. This is battletech, a setting where running around in centuries old mechs...

Agree with you on the name, but a single clan, even a minor one, overruning a large periphery nation is fairly plausible. Remember, this the periphery, and the deep periphery at that, which means they're ill equipped even by the standards of the periphery. Some of them haven't recovered from...

Iron wind has updated their release schedule up through the summer, and for once it's actually them updating it with what they will be releasing and not what they just did release. Spring: Carrion Crow, which is basically a 40 tom war crow with no LRMs. Lighting, which is basically a Thunder...

You means Razor's battletech audiobooks? They've been up for a while, and he mentioned that he did those ones because it's unlikely anyone else would try to make an official one, so they're probably safe. It's shocking how good they based on how his other videos are. He's not bad normally, but...
