Halo Halo TV Series Thread: This isn't the Red Flag we were hoping for.

Of course it's out of character, everyone in the show is out of character. According to what I've seen of the last episode, they swing really hard in "evil Halsey the control freak mad scientist" at the end, which even if you don't like Halsey is the wrong way to demonize her. Halsey's core...

Oh, it was absolutely illegal, the point was rhstcit was not illegal under the Geneva convention and wasn't a war crime. And while technically it's accurate to say "MC raped a POW", as a critism of the show it comes across as just trying to frame everything in the worst possible terms regardless...

Colloquially speaking, it's not rape. Legally speaking I don't think it's a warcrime in the Geneva convention sense (didn't see anything about it skimming the convention), but it's almost certainly a violation of UNSC rules and regulations. That's not quite correct. The Spartan augmentation...

If they end the series by framing this all as a in-universe claim made by Colonel Ackerson......well, it won't redeem the project, not by a longshot. But it's the only way they could possibly establish any sort of connection to the main canon.

Hey, The Flood was great! Not on par with the Nylund trilogy, granted, and Dietz didn't quite capture MC the way other writers did, but the rest of the book was very solid.

The fact it's woke isn't really the problem, if the series was about a black muslim lesbian marine and her wives fighting a losing battle against the Covenant, just trying to survive the next day I'd totally watch it. The problem is that the show isn't even remotely faithful to the source...

The more I learn about Bungie's time with the franchise, the more ridiculously improbable Halo's eventually success ends up looking. Not that 343i is much better, but 343i's issues have generally been more because they wanted to break new ground, vs bungie's various bits of sabotage and...

There's a critical point you're skipping over. Canon MC wouldn't just execute a teenager, because canon MC almost certainly wouldn't be given that order in the first place, at least not for something like this. Kwan almost got ventilated because she wouldn't do PR for the UNSC, and instead...

You know, if someone wanted to to revisit the universe and ideas from that Kurt Russel movie "Soldier" this badly, I'm pretty sure the rights to that are a lot cheaper than the right to Halo, and no one will really care if the bad guys are using AKs and Chevy.

Part of the issue with adapting the books is that the books, particularly the early ones, are very different from the games. A huge chunk of the Nylund books are set on ships doing space combat, an aspect of the series the games barely touch on. I would love to see Keyes Loop make it onscreen...

Right, I was going mostly off the Fall of Reach scene discussing spartans, forgot about red team and all the anime Spartans or whatever that showed up later in the franchise because Bungie never bothered keeping spartan numbers consistent. Spartans are like Jedi, whenever there's only one of...

That's not surprising, people have been saying that MC is not really a great choice for a central protagonist for like 15 years, even since the idea of a halo movie or series was being floated.

The series is set in a different timeline, yes. Not exactly. When the Pillar of Autumn retreated after the battle of Reach, they believed that thr Master Chief was the only surviving active spartan, as the rest of them were on Reach*, or on the Autumn but clinically dead (you can actually see...

One other thing that's jumped out at me post trailer is the tagline that's being used to promote the show, "Find the Halo, Win the war". Which combined with a few other bits, suggests someone badly misunderstood the premise of Halo. The UNSC thought they could win the war very early on, before...

Well, in this case it's understandable. It's hard to sell an actress on the role when she asks about her costume and the producers just set a few cans of paint on the table.

So, Halo's getting a TV series, sort of. It's supposed to be some kind of alt-universe timeline thing, for reasons that upon viewing the trailer, become fairly obvious, there's a number of bits here that don't seem to really fit into the universe established by the rest of the franchise. A bit...
