In law enforcement or military in a hazard zone? I'm biased from all the media and entertainment so the finer details of whether people in those careers ever used something as simple as an ear plug to prevent noise damage and distraction I don't know.

Everything in life can be a risk. At least now there's more awareness and addition of safety equipment. Though I don't know about law enforcement or military. I doubt they use ear plugs.
