The original idea was to never show the emperor in the OT IIRC, he should have been just a shadowy figure somewhere. However, I was alluding to what happened next, the original EU and the new EU both have escalating numbers of bigger and badder baddies and multiple attempts to bring back the...

Because they have to keep the big bad for the next book, or the book after the next 5 books... This is not new, nor is it rare. It happened in Star Wars, in Stargate, in every single series, people don't wanna kill a cash cow. The one thing I liked about Mistborn, at least the first book, is...

No, thank you! Still haven't found my copy, sadly, I think I gave it to a friend a long time ago, but I can find the relevant stories and read them, most should even be public domain by now.

The Rediscovery of Man by Cordwainer Smith, should be the SF Masterworks edition, since there are several such compendium of Smith's work, and IMHO this one combines most of the best stuff.

If @Bear Ribs wants to nominate Berserk again I am all for it. I even read it again. :) Also, why don't you nominate something yourself, Dogboy Twatterwhisperer. ;)

Very well, I shall be throwing The Rediscovery of Man(SF Masterworks edition) by Cordwainer Smith in the hat, since that is an old favorite and a good intro to Smith. He is one of those less well known, but tremendously influential SF writers of the Golden Age. I sure hope the stories are as...

So, when do we start with the voting and the nominations?

TBH I chose it purely impulsively while browsing through amazon "readers also bought..." for Jake's Magical Market, I just wanted some escapist Isekai or reverse Isekai type stuff to unwind. Also, Hot Blonde Elf Babe! Bleh, should not be around here after 2 AM.Totally boomered the QUOTE...

Read that one, too, I'd say it is at best as good as Sword Diplomacy, the character starts off interesting, but the episodic format leaves much to be desired, there were bits and pieces of politically correct crap like the OP girfriend and there was too much modern nonsense and hypster stuff...

Yeah, well blame me, I wanted something like the first book we read, but better.

Yeah, sure, I was thinking about starting the voting early, not the reading.

As I said, I am done as well. I might look into the next book of the series, but I won't be recommending it on here. BTW, I am reading the first Berserker collection, and while I enjoyed Sword Diplomacy I can not stop myself from thinking that overall that classic was the better, more...

I started even before I proposed it, actually. :D And it isn't a door stopper, either.Nowhere as long as Jake's not so excellent Mary Sue Adventure.Print version is IIRC 300 pages or thereabouts.

Aaand I am done. Will try and write a more detailed review later on, but overall I enjoyed this one hell a lot more than Jake's magical market. Starting on the first of the Berserker short story collections.

I liked your rec but I spent both of my votes. I might look into it after I am done with Berserker and Sword Diplomacy. PS @Bear Ribs I hope you don't mind me trying to pimp out the club through my sig. I want more people to join in.
